This much I know What I don't know is what the monitor line is and where to start looking for anything obvious

1. start by checking ABS sensor and wiring

Turns out it was a poor connection in the round connector on the abs pump. Local old school Land Rover specialist sorted it in minutes. :

glade that was simple problem as ABS system failure i.e. abs modulator £££££££££££££££££££££££££££££
