Hi all,
I’ve got a 2012 USW and the central locking seems to have acquired a life of his own. When I turn the car off, remove the key from the ignition and then go to open the door the central locking locks itself. It can also happen if I approach the car when unlocked and try to open the drivers door. Again the central locking locks itself. Never have any bother locking or unlocking the car with the fob itself. I’ve done some searching and the closest information I can find suggests that the locking mechanism might need some lubricating. Is that where I should start? Or does anyone have any other suggestions? Many thanks in advance, Nick |

Haven't managed to solve it yet. Though the problem has largely gone away for the last few weeks so I've forgotten about it...

Cold weather can play havoc with it.
Also check your wiring through the A and B pillars, small cracks or splits in the wiring sheath can set it off |

I had same thing. Sat inside and watched it from there and i could see the lock pegs struggling to move fully up so were flying straight back down. Put some oil on the plastic and they were back to normal as was everything else....

I had the same problems earlier this year when we had all the snow. Took my niece to school, left the car running in the road while I jumped out to walk her across the road and as I shut the door - boom, locked out!
Thankfully one of the parents gave me a lift home to get my spare key, but boy did my defender cause a lot of traffic blocking the single land country road |

Quick update. I've finally managed to resolve the issue I was having. The part I've circled in the picture below was complete seized on the back of the lock barrel on the drivers door. Managed to get it off, free it up and grease it. And (for now!) the central locking seems to be behaving.

Thanks for this, I had the same problem, everything else seemed to be fine so I’m glad this was the solution!
