I think the later reprints where all soft cover (my copy is one of those!)
Are your hardcover ones numbered? I’m trying to resist the urge to PM you! |

There were 2 editions: first edition 1982, softbound, foolscap, limited to 1000 copies, signed and supplied in a fitted cardboard case (not a slipcase though). Second revised edition, 1986, hardbound with colour dw, A4, not a limited edition as such but undoubtedly a small print run all the same, not signed.
The second edition is hard to find, a mint boxed first edition is extremely hard to find, made more so by the fragility of the original binding. For most purposes the second (revised) edition is more useful. I have both! Edit: until this thread came up and caused me to do some investigating, I hadn't realised how much my absolutely mint first edition with matching numbered Remploy case is now worth to a collector. To say I am shocked is an understatement I am not aware of a softback reprint of the second edition. |

A "LAND-ROVER - THE EARLY YEARS" BY TONY HUTCHINGS - 2005 CLUB REPRINT - SIGNED is on ebay. Would this just be someone photocopying an original and binding at home?
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-THE-...2920623781 You can get copies in US for $2-3k!!!! Interesting. That appears to be a 2005 reprint of the original edition but comb-bound (or possibly spiral-bound). The description states "Land-Rover Register’s reprint [150 copies] of the long out of print book Land-Rover - The early years by Tony Hutchings."
It is signed by the author (who was also the publisher of both editions) and so is clearly legitimate. So it seems that there is a 2005 comb-bound impression of 150 copies of the original 1000-copy limited first edition. |

I’m shocked too. Mine is the early edition and still in the box but I have a feeling the binding was not very good, I shall have to find it and “carefully” take it out and have a look |

Found my copy which is number 283. It’s hardly been out of the box I would imagine for no more than a few dozen times, I look after my books but the binding on this is awful with many pages coming loose

Given the potential value of this book , it might be worthwhile having it professionally rebound or repaired before it deteriorates further? I do not think it would be overly expensive. 1983 Series 3 Pick up in Marine Blue

Oh well, since you've bothered to find yours.....
Mine is number 273, still in the box and has a little card inside from TH apologising for delay in sending it, due to "summer holidays". I made the mistake of reading it from cover to cover, back in'82 and several times since. Never mind, I think one or two pages may not have come loose..... |
