Led headlight sealed unit very dim
Recently fitted some led sealed units to my 90.
The dipped beam is very dim and is difficult to see on the roads.
I'm wondering if I do the wiring upgrade will it make a difference?

Are you sure they are aligned properly?
I went to LR to get them done properly supposedly and they still weren’t.
They were pointing at the floor. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

In a nutshell Eric is correct I'm afraid. To get decent and legal light output you need to be spending at very least double that on a branded pair from the likes of Trucklite, Nolden (OEM) or JWSpeaker Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Kind of sums it up.

You have been unfortunate but the paradigm does hold true you get what you pay for. I doubt at the MOT the tester would be happy with that beam pattern. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

Sorry Natellis, the lights you have bought are illegal for road use in the UK as they are not approved for road use.

Unlike a halogen filament bulb a LED either works or does not work as long as the voltage is above the minimum to trigger it. So fitting a wiring loom will do nothing for the light output.

Best advice would be to bin those, you could try returning them with the hope you get some money back but that is highly unlikely.

If you look at the other items sold by that ebay seller and you will see that they are not a specialist LED seller but sells anything that they can locate in China. Chances are they just buy in stock when orders come in.

I am unaware of any unbranded LED headlights which are road legal in the UK.

Your real choices are

1) Fit Wipac crystal headlights with uprated bulb and loom.

2) Fit road legal branded LED headlights such as Noldens, Truck-Lites, Vision X, JW Speaker

Trucklite are good, I have those.

Your best bet might be using PayPal if the buyer won’t refund you and accept a return. Try raising an issue to say the goods aren’t fit for purpose. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Have a look at the latest version of a LED headlight from Truck-Lite here

4x4overlander has them for sub £300.

This headlight is a four function light, low beam, main beam, DRL and direction indicator and carries all the correct approval markings for legal use in the UK.

Please note that in the UK that a motor vehicle is only allowed one indicator per side at the front of a vehicle so it is a case of either indicator in the headlight or the standard indicator at the front of a standard Defender.

There are many more multifunctional lights being produced especially in the 90mm range.

Please be aware and be careful where you buy your LED headlights from.

On one well know internet site there are (being polite) some scamming businesses. There is one company selling

Quote:

PAIR OF LAND ROVER DEFENDER TRUCK-LITE 27291C 7" ROUND LED HEADLAMPS HEADLIGHTS

for less then £100

Sounds a right bargain there doesn't it compared to normal price of around £400

Only slight problem is that these are unbranded, illegal headlights which are just trading off the the name of a reputable headlight maker using the correct part number from a reputable maker.

If headlights are claimed to be DOT/SAE approved they are illegal in the UK.

Please learn what the correct approval markings look like to avoid the scammers.
