Wet driver side mat.
Hi all.

I knew I had an issue with damp mats but the other day I knelt on the floor to lean across the driver seat and I got a very soggy knee!!! It seems its getting worse.

I got in touch with LRO mag who suggested stripping off the dash and pouring water/hose down the front to see where the water is coming from.. As The Duchess is my daily, I didn't fancy stripping out the dash...

Is there any problem/specific areas I can check before going to the length of stripping it to a shell? Sad

I have a 2004 110 xs TD5

Had the same problem. Mine stemmed from a small unplugged hole on the bulk head, just under the dash, towards the door side. Almost by the middle internal hinge. You have to get in and amongst the pedals and look up to see it. Blocked it up, no water. I think this was occasionally exacerbated by a small leak through the windscreen to bulkhead seal, where rain collected in the sponge, transferred to the bolts under the windscreen blocks, trickled inside and down the lower half of the a-pillar. I’ve reproofed the seal, and cleaned and treated the bolts, water transfer and condensation seems to have stopped. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Do the easy check first. Take the mat out, shut the door and hose around the door seal. Get in the passenger side and look for water.

I only had to replace the door seal (less than £20) to get a completely dry cabin.

This bloke from Yorkshire is brilliant BTW

What did you re-proof the seal with?

There is a small drain hole in the gutter just above the centre of the Passenger door which seems unnecessary as the gutter ends a few inches away so I plugged this hole with sealant to stop water dripping straight down the passenger door. Jeff

I cleaned the window frame and fake-vent section to remove all grime, dirt, oil etc and then applied a strip of transparent anti-stone-chip protector across the full width and wrapped round each edge. Working so far and pretty much invisible against the paint, Corris Grey Thumbs Up

I got a strip from a mate, but this is the stuff.

For me, I think the rain comes in via the bottom of the door card, leaking out and then onto the foam lining of the mat and then wicking across the mat. 1999 Defender TD5 110

On a previous Td5 Def I had water behind pedals, was holes in bulkhead above your feet. They seal them with small circles of sticky tape. That get old and fall off.

Worth a check. Nice and easy to fix.
