Removal of all this, Land Rover designers, just what where you thinking of? A simple tube would have worked..
30 mins... and all out, hacksaw to cut the plastic tubes from the vent side to the box. Held on by a stupid bracket... but, it all came out.... all this... pipe work...  Click image to enlarge Next up getting that  filter box out... I have a/c, so there is pipe right next to the box, had to remove the large fan cowl for more access and then the old bracket at the back, which I drilled the 6 pop rivets from underneath the inner liner, and pryed the box off the rubber grommets.. this took 30 minutes, two bloodied knuckles, but, it came out.

New airbox in, nicely sealed up, managed to get the airbox in without removing the wheel and liner.

Part two, fitting the new air filter box....
Somewhat easy to fit, two bolts on the housing attach to existing holes on the vehicle, no,drilling, one to the side of radiator mount and the other to the wing gutter, which is adjustable to make the unit fit correctly. I found that getting a good seal on the plastic extender tube to the air filter housing itself, it was best to attach the jubilee clip before I fitted it in the vehicle. Making sure to push the tube down as far as it would go, then attach the jubilee clip onto the housing. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The rest was straight forward, attaching the flexible hose to the plastic extender and then attaching the turbo intake hose. You will notice that the MAF has been refitted in the new unit. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Tighten the two attachment bolts once everything was in place and robert’s your fathers brother. Test drive, noticably smoother on acceleration, seems to pull better, hesitation in first and second has gone and a nice growl from the snorkel on acceleration, growl only noticeable with the window down. More power on pick up, seems so. So, worth it, yes, after all the useless plastic pipework I removed and that woefully inefficient old airbox, and I have the knowledge the system is fully sealed from the RAI all the way to the turbo, before, guess work. If I understand this right, the flexi from the intake attaches to the plastic extender tube (presumably to clear the alternator), and the extender tube fits into the new filter housing?
Did you happen to measure the i/d of the flexi or the o/d of the extender tube? I do like this filter but would need to mate it to a Nakatanenga RAI which alread replaces all the pipework to the standard filter with a much larger-bore sealed pipe. I'm not sure if there would be integration issues. |

Were you able to remove the old airbox without disturbing the AC pipework. If so, how? I tried and failed in the past

Yes, that’s how it connects, the extender tube has a “cutout” in it to avoid fouling the alternator. The advise was to use the large cable ties to pull the extender closer to the inner wing, I found I didn’t need to do that.
I think the flexi tube is 90mm. My guess with the Naka, you just need to clamp the hose down to the extender....assuming it’s 90mm, if not, won’t fit as is me might require a step down / step up. The air filter housing came with a new extender. |

Yep, took off the engine fan cowl, made sure the rubber bungs were free off the mount, which was removed, the 6 pop rivets as part of the install. Wasn’t easy, but yes it came out ok. |

Great write up mate on great products...mind you I might be a bit biased!!
Just a tip on removing the old air filter box if fitting mine and you are totally committed to doing so.....hacksawing one of the feet off the old air filter box makes it a lot easier to remove...but it is a total commitment step When I fitted mine I may have even taken a bit more then that off..... |

Agree, cutting the feet off would have made it easier, but someone wanted the old one, in tact.
