300tdi electrical issue?
I have a 1996 300tdi truck-can that was rebuilt a few years back, but I’ve had an electrical gremlin for a while 🙄 I could do with a bit of advice as my auto electrical skills are 0 lol
The truck has led lights all round, if I put the side lights on all is fine, if I put the headlights on the fuel and temp gauges go up and the horn doesn’t work as if there’s not enough power?
I thought it may be the aftermarket headlights causing the issue, but if the lights are off and I put the heater on full, it does the same, dials go up and as if horn doesn’t have enough power? 🙈 wipers would go the same way, slow, as if there’s not enough power.
Any clues as to the issue before I have to take it to a specialist? 🤓

Sounds like a classic earth fault.

It's missing or broken somewhere. Easiest way is to get some decent cable (25~35mm2 stuff), make up some leads from the battery -ve to the chassis, gearbox and onto the bulkhead.

Then maybe had a delve around behind the dash to see if there is a wayward wire anywhere.

Thanks for that, thought that might be the case. Will have to investigate further, on a side not the blower appears to be hot or hot......no cold, I’m guessing that could be contributory?

The heater heat is controlled by a cable (on the RH of the dash), it just operates a flap in the heater unit uself...purely mechanical.

Probably just needs adjusting... there's a clamp thing that locks on the cable (at the heater end), that may have come loose and moved up the cable a bit.
