I don't think any boat has been missed as yet. EV's are certainly getting traction, but its still a way to go. Range anxiety isn't the issue for me. Its that the batteries wear and degrade ... and cost a lot to replace. If you could buy an EV where you knew that in 10 years time the battery would be able to hold the charge as well as day 1, then I'm sold.

As for Land Rover and EV ... i think hybrids are the way forward in the near-term, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a hybrid in the defender, so nothing missed.

One of the questions I keep asking myself is why do LR's need such big engines across the range? Why not offer the models with a super-eco engine for people who simply want to drive the model, but dont want all the performance and cost of a large engine.

I see that Jag have brought out the little F-type with a 2.0l engine ... which some folk seem to like ... makes the whole thing lighter and changes the car. Why not have a 1.0 defender option, a 1.5; Disco/Evoque option, a 2.0l Disco/RR.

Anyways, I expect the defender to be priced beyond most and it to be sold as a 'niche' vehicle .... I hope I'm wrong. -------------------------------
I miss my V8's....

JLR have moved far too slow on this in an attempt to mass produce everything in their range to cater for mass demand over seas, Not sure who put it above but the boat has sailed, the demand has slowed down as trends shift towards other must haves like exotic holiday locations and dare I say it.... bricks and mortar.

All manufactureres have seen a huge slowing in sales, there are fields all over the U.K. full of JLR products, they haven’t enough room to store what they’ve produced so production has slowed right down. I personally feel JLR have tried too hard to procure a new customer base and found easy pickings but the Germans have fought back, people cannot he expected to take the amount of crap that JLR throw at their customers, that doesn’t entice buyers who buy solely on what they want to be seen in, what goes on Instagram and face book, the LR buyers I know or used to know were hard working types who required a vehicle to fit a specific task, many of my mates serving and ex forces had a natural affinity to the product and not used to sit outside the hairdressers on a Friday, that’s what Merc’s And BMW’s were for.

Diesels have had a real hard time of it since the VW emissions scandal, Braexit plays its part in the uncertainty, DEFENDER has gotten LR out of the mire already, I feel a lot could be either won or lost on the flip of this coin.

I’m currently driving a D5 with all the bells and whistles, including the early service fiasco, the way that it’s been handled has turned my stomach, my alliegence swings on this new product. I’m keeping my fingers crossed but I’m not holding my breath. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

Strange how things come full circle.

In 1948 when Rover could hardly sell any of their "Bank Manager's" cars, they quickly made a cheap utility truck that buyers needed (note "needed" not "wanted") all over the world.

It was soon outselling their cars.

Now JLR are having difficulty selling their "aspirational" cars, they need a cheap utility vehicle that could sell all over the world.

Have they managed to get it all wrong?

We shall see......

I saw it last week near the Hogs Back, And reminisced briefly about my time in the Army thundering round Hankley Common in a One Ten V8.....

I must admit to paying very little to absolutely no attention to it what so ever, whilst thinking I’m having one of them, which has got me to where I am to day, my 90 XS bought new in 08 that was constantly in limp home mode very time it went up a hill, Disco Sport bought new in 2015 that worked ok until I drove it out of the dealers and just developed a mind of its own which was also rejected. And my D5 again bought new in March this year that has had 3 Oil changes in 7K miles due to a none existent problem with Oil dilution, that isn’t a problem apparently.

I did have a D3 from 08 to 2015 which was by far the best car I’ve ever owned, so it’s not all bad. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

That size description sounds about what I was hoping for. Sounds Wrangler-ish in size.
