Swivel to axle bolts are these https://www.landroverworkshop.com/diagrams...s_52600#10 you need to use a ring spanner as sockets don't fit
The brake disc bolts are 14mm bihex It's a fairly straightforward job. The only thing that can go wrong is setting the swivel preload, so take your time. |

thanks for that info!
yes the job seems straightforward its just trying to clarify some of the conflicting info ive been given regarding bolt head types. ill get a set of bihex sockets. ![]() regarding swivel preload, there also seems to be lots of different figures floating about. haynes says 3.6-4.5kg but that looks like on the bench. and not in situ figure |

Here's a copy of the figures I used lifted straight from the workshop manual
![]() Just redone mine as part of the rebuild project and was straightforward enough. Make sure you've a good selection of shims to go at though, I ended up using a few more than I originally ordered. The figure quoted is with no seals fitted ![]() Click image to enlarge |

As you can see you will need a spring balance. Let us know if you can find a reasonably priced one.

Every fishing tackle shop carries them, they’re not expensive.

Thanks for the info. i'll ignore the haynes manual and stick with the workshop figures for the preload.
I managed to get a spring balance from a fishing friend ![]() Do the top and bottom swivel bearing get greased when they go in or is oil recommended for these? |

For the swivel housing to axle bolts I have sacrificed a 14mm ring spanner and cut the ring in half, as this enables you to rotate the bolts even when they tight, it saves you getting the full ring spanner stuck. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

how did the ring spanner get stuck?
once you unscrew the bolt enough you can slid the spanner down the threads and remove the bolt along with the spanner? |

The wagons I work on tend to of been washed in salt water so the washers weld themselves to the bolt heads, the cut down ring also allows you to put the bolts back in easier on reassembley as the can sometimes be too tight to do by hand. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
