Huh ! Question is..... will they wave at us ?
My wave may well include the addition of an erect middle finger Whistle
But then it'll be ironic if I end up driving one eh.

Some of us may have to drive them so we don't get clobbered by the ULEZ. I need my 110 for work but also live in London!
Looking at a 1968 series 2a as well tho! Tax exempt and ULEZ exempt too!! Very Happy

You will soon know if the occupant is a landrover addict or just one of the "look at me brigade", so whether to wave or not will become quite clear. ðŸ˜

To begin with, the issue won´t arise. They (the new Defenders) will be cruising the cities and ´burbs, where, by then all current (Euro5 or less) Defenders will be banned.

However, maybe the clever marketing chaps at LR will make an extra big effort to "product place" the new vehicle right where it needs to be to earn its merit point - in farmyards, on mountain rescue teams, fire and rescue, Police and security services and suchlike.

"No you can´t have one unless you are going to do something useful with it" should be their game plan.... 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Maybe.

If it is not badged as a Defender, possibly not. I don't wave at Freelander's, Discoveries or Range Rovers. It's not personal.

If it fits in with the JLR direction of travel, I don't suppose it will be marketed to those kind of people who wave?

Wild Card, you're so funny. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Landrover will place their products just as they have done for years.
The royal family, rugby players, yachting people and Olympic horse riders. (Aren't they all the same individuals? Shocked )
People who can afford their own vehicles.

Farmers, Police, military and rescue will be priced out, regardless of if the vehicle is any good or not.

Probably not, I don't wave at Freelanders so why would I wave at a Freelander with a Defender badge stuck on the front ? It'll just be another vehicle to slot into the confusing range they already have. The only real question is how they will position it in price and equipment level when compared to the existing models. http://www.yorkshireoffroadclub.net/

Exactly.

When I'm driving my classic (non LR), I give a thumbs up to other classic car drivers. Probably makes me a saddo but it is nice to see people using their cars.

Usually if other non defender road users are waving at me it is to tell me that the van with the cameras is parked up the road.
Or of course I know them or I owe them money....

I just don’t think the ‘new’ Defender drivers will be that type that will want to wave.

I’m with Kit. If they wave, I will. The question has to be asked, why are we all not waving at other Land Rover marques already?

I think with the new Defender, I will adopt an intitial policy of wave if it is dirty and has not standard AT or MT tyres, or if they wave at me first.

The wave is a complex, ever changing topic that academics and psychologists have wrestled to understand ever since leaves gave way to coil springs. My own philosophy on this is that I will auto-intitiate the wave with any Series, 90, 110 or Defender. With D1 and D2s I will carefully appraise their demeanour on approach. Do they look like an LR enthusuast or just a caravanner fallen on hard times? If it's the former, we are go for a wave, if its the latter, or anyhting else, I'll will only respond if they intitiate. Sometimes I feel bad for quite some time afterwards if I feel my jdgement has let me down. I have never been waved at by a D3 or newer, or any Freelander, Range Rover etc. so the jury's still out on those. On relfection, I feel the first Freelander ought to be entering wave territory by now, maybe I'll give it a go. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
