EGT Gauge Fitting
EGT Gauge - I'm in Australia for a few weeks and have found an EGT gauge much cheaper then cost in UK. It comes with a sender that has a 1/8 NPT thread. Thread adaptors are also available. Anyone know if there is an existing threaded hole on a 300 TDI I can use, and what thread? Many thanks for any assistance. He who wanders is not always lost

First thought was EGR blanking plate, drill and thread for adaptor.
How much depth does the sensor require ?

Jip. That's how mine was done. Then you give the thermocouple a slight bend to put the tip into and upwards into manifold.

Not a 300tdi but a TD5. I fitted an EGT guage almost a year ago now and i have to say the thing that surprised me the most was just how much the temperature fluctuates and by how much. It is no wonder exhaust manifolds warp or studs break.

Well worth the effort to install. There are some good youtube videos out there IIRC for 300tdi installation. Just search for "300tdi egt gauge" and there is heaps of stuff out there.

Which gauge have you found?

Thanks for all the ideas. I've found a gauge here at $160, it's cheaper then I've seen in Europe and is almost a match for the VDO gauges I already have fitted, and comes with sender. VDO gauge plus sender was really expensive option! I've already ordered the EGR plate with 1/8 NPT fitting from fleabay. So looks like I have my next job when I get home. Thanks again for all the assistance, much appreciated. He who wanders is not always lost
