Puma Speed Pulse for Sat Nav?
Just wondered if anyone knew where the speed pulse is located on the 2007/08 Defender? Looking to fit a new Sat Nav that requires it and want to avoid the £150 for a Can-BUS unit.

The speed signal on the puma is not CAN, its a normal analouge 12v PWM signal from the speed sensor on the transfer box, i think if my memory is correct its 5200 pluses per mile.

The CAN part of the speed signal is only used from the instruemnt cluster to the engine ecu.

I asked the same question, when the Puma came out,, but never bothered to wire in the speed sensor,,
Unit works fine on mine, without it Whistle California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Guess splicing into the red/brown wire would also work for fitting a sensor http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=sho...;Itemid=14 for a brantz trip meter (see my other post http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic5199.html?highlight=).

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks

Thanks for confirming. Sensor ordered.

Where did you cut into the wire? I have the instrument pod out now and there is not much exposed wire between the connector into the pod and the wrapped loom. Is there a more accessible length of this wire somewhere else?

Thanks

But you don't need the interface!

Only an "Y" connection!

I had take off the connector, sold a tiny cable on pin 13.....

Hi guys,

I have been reading this thread but things seem to be different in my 08 TD4.. Confused
When taking off the instrument cluster, I have three black/red wires and no brown/red wires. Does anyone know which is the correct one?

Thanks a lot,
Robert

Maybe Wink
This is the location of the wire used for the speedo pick up when fitting cruise control.

Hi Alien,

Thanks! But how can I find out which of the cables enters #13? It is not visible from the back of the connector as they enter it in a big bunch... Is there a way to test this?

From memory I removed the cover from the back of the plug.
I did mine @18 months ago but it looks black in your picture.
The wires will not fall out of thier respective positions when removed.

The other method is to probe one of the wires and use a ohm meter to test for continuity to pin 13.
You have a 1 in 3 chance of getting it right first time doing it this way. Cheers,
Kyle.
