Cost to Rebuild ?
So, I'm taking the family across Europe next year for a month.

I could take the beemer or disco but I want to take a tax exempt series instead. It will be last trip with kids as they are are late teens and apparently holidays are not 'lit' anymore. I't will be a keeper once bought for occasional (nice weather) use.

I will need DCPU/Station wagon (5 of us with luggage) and I want V8 as original as poss. I've been lurking for a while looking but nothing really jumps out at me. So I'm thinking about havenig one restored.

What should I be paying to have one professionly done ? I've got a budget of 20-30k and want it to be bang on.

cheers

The answer is "as much as you want to spend..."

As far as I know, and I have thought about doing this for a living, 30—40k will get you a full restoration on a defender. A series I am not so sure about, but obviously I won't be a mile from that. Of course it clearly depends on the state of the car at the start, and the quality of the restoration you plan. "bang on" could, and does, mean different things to different people.

I've a V8 90 I need to build and I am budgeting 15, and that's doing it myself V8 90...WIP

Pom.

I can recommend Ben Stowe at Black Paw 4x4 near York. His daily driver is a '49 Series 1. He also drives a Camel 110 and a pre production V8 One Ten on carbs, he's restoring a 2.6 Series 2 carawagon for family holidays. The list goes on!

Give him a call, I think you'll be pleased.

You want a tax-exempt Series, but as a double-cab pickup or Station Wagon and with a V8?

Could be tricky, but you could put a V8 in a SII or SIII 109" Station Wagon.

Stage One V8's will be tax exempt soon (if not already).

Too much alteration and you could lose tax-exemption.

As said, Ben Stowe at Black Paw 4x4 can do almost anything you want.
