Puma Air Con Tri Pressure Switch Replacement
Hi have done some Air Con checks to workout why the system is not working, have had the refrigerant refilled and the pressure tested all ok. The The aircon clutch is not engaging so have hard wired this to 12 volts the clutch engages and am getting very cold air in the cab. Two possible items could be causing the Tri Pressure Switch or the Ice Switch as the pressure switch is easy to get to was going to try replacing this does anyone know if this can be done without de pressurising the system?

Thanks in advance for any help on this...

I have replaced a number of de-ice switches but no pressure switches. I suggest that you buy a new de-ice switch and remove the centre panel on the dash (where radio and switches are) then plug in the new de-ice switch. The connector will be on the passenger side of the heater/aircon box. If its the de-ice switch the aircon will work straight away but will not cut out as the sensor is not in place to sense the cold. So put the sensor in some frozen stuff and it should cut out after some seconds.

Don't run for system for more than a few minutes as you don't want the evaporator to freeze up.

I assue that you know the pressure switch needs to sense a minimum pressure to allow the system to switch on. Really it would be good to have a set of gauges connected to see what is happening with the pressures.

I don't really understand how the person who put the gas in the system said the pressures were fine if the compressor was not coming on. Maybe new recharging systems can recharge without the system operating? 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Hi Nick,
thanks for your reply the chap who filled the the system had a decent bit of kit that you put the make year and model in it then checked the level extracted the gas then refilled and tested pressure. Worked first time and said the pressure was good it didn't flag up any errors on the machine after it did a diagnostic.

I went for the Pressure switch as it was easy to get to I can actually get to the Ice switch connector without removing anything.

Can you please let me know where I can order the correct ice switch from and also do I have to dismantle any of the heater assebly to replace? Feel this may be a little beyond me after watching a few videos.

Thank you very much for your Time

Steve

Below is the de-ice switch LR036309.

Its a dash out job and then you have to dismantle the heater box. Its not for the faint hearted. At this stage I was thinking you could test it with a new de-ice switch and see what the problem is.

Yes its possible to get the connector for the switch without removing anything if you know where to look. Good that you have found it then. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

Brilliant thanks for the Link I will get one ordered and will worry about taking the dash out once I confirm its faulty think I will put the new pressure switch in as well if I'm depressurising the system. Thank you very much for your response and time Nick much appreciated..... Bow down Bow down Bow down

The aircon relay is activated by the pressure switch.
Check the connections. I had a problem with the plug on the way. Bergos
