Norway Trip
Having been kicked into touch due to a friends wedding in Bali and then a lack of funds, the Norway trip is back on for next summer. Me, Mrs H and the two small Hs will take the Heritage and do a little tour of southern Norway. The plan is:

1. Dover to Calais, overnight at Bremen (Germany) on route to Hirtshals (Denmark)
2. Overnight ferry from Hirtshals to Stavanger.
3. Drive up to Bergen to visit friends for a couple of days.
4. Bergen to Myrkdalen (cabin) via Flam (massive zipwire) to do a couple of days walking in the national park, go to Voss for rafting / biking
5. Myrkdalen up to join the Atlantic Road and on to stop at Loen
6. Loen to Lillehammer, across the top of another national park
7. Lillehammer to Oslo (via the scenic route)
8. Oslo - ferry to Frederiskshaven (Denmark)
9. Frederikshaven to Bremen (or somewhere in the same area).
10. Bremen to Calais to home.

It should be about 12 days. Anyone got experience of similar trip and suitable advice?!

I'll be following with interest, sounds a nice trip. I was just commenting on Manxman456 Danish Trip thread. I really fancy doing a Scandinavian road trip just not sure my kids 9 & 7 will be so keen?! James

We’ve covered most of the route the you mentioned on a couple of trips - things to remember that the speed limit in Norway is mostly 50mph ... so your transit times are going to be longer ...
There are a lot of tunnels in Norway so again these may slow you down if you have to be somewhere quickly.
The biggest thing is that the views are jaw dropping, so be prepared to take lots of photos!

Fuel is about the same as the UK cost wise and available everywhere, english is easy to use, alcohol is more expensive,(that a surprise!) food is a bit more expensive in the super markets, much more expensive in the restaurants and hotels.

enjoy!!! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Thanks both. I've spent a fair bit of time there and want to share a small bit of it with the clan. I get your point on the driving time Wyvern, the trip from Stavanger to Bergen is about 130 miles, but involves two ferries and google maps allows 5 hours door to door! I've tried to plan on 5 hours max in any day apart from the drive out Hirtshals and back from Frederikshaven. There are some days where we will only do very local driving.

I realised I've posted this in Expedition and Overland which feels rather fraudulent, but there isn't a category (yet) for softies touring....no roof rack, sand ladders, jerry cans on this trip, essentially just driving from UK to Norway, staying in the odd hotel, ferry, cabin and friends house!

Beyond a service and a clean beforehand I'm only planning to add fuel and check the bodily fluids, so not particularly adventurous Laughing

Dont worry - you will be having an adventure - which is what landrover's are built for !

Some have an adventure in their back garden playing in the mud, others go further afield .. its not a one size fits all - so just do it!
Scotland, Cornwall, wimbledon or Mongolia ... Its all as much an adventure as you want it to be! Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Luuuuuve Norway and all the spots you have mentioned. Great times had. Just don't let the image of me slightly worse for ware and swimming butt-naked invade your thoughts as you look out over the beautiful views of Lake Voss Very Happy

Fortunately you've not included 'Elverum' on your travels Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

I'm just grateful there were no photos attached Shocked

So do I get the output shaft replaced beforehand or anticipate it going when I'm furthest from a garage of any sort?

I know that's a general question, but based on my last long trip just two months ago, get it done now. Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

That is kind of what I was thinking, but she hasn't done 10k yet, and by the time we go might have done 11 or 12. Any idea if they have failed at that low mileage? It would be a pretty poor effort even for LR.

That seems like the perfect ages. Mine will be 12 and 14. They have survived trips to the Alps, including in the 110, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I'm thinking a no devices during the day rule is a must. Obviously that make me a Nazi, but it is a long way to go to look at a screen!

Ah, mine was 60k. Take a look at DSC’s excellent data on Output Shaft failures, should give you a better idea, but as you point out 10-12k would be fairly exceptional.
