If you're going as far as Loen then it's worth taking a trip south from there on the Fv723, which runs alongside a lake called Lovanet and ends at a gravel car park. From there, it's a short walk to one of the faces of the Jostadelsbreen glacier.

Did a very similar trip a few years back in the Disco. We wild camped every other night or so and took a cabin for a shower on the others. It was end of October mind so already getting cold with ice on the truck some mornings. Don't forget to pre-register your vehicle registration and load your account before arriving, that way you can drive the motorways and toll sections without stopping and with no fear of a fine if you miss the ANPR camera.
PLaces to visit on your route that are not to be missed. In Lillehammer it is worth visiting the bob sleigh track where top gear filmed the rally car race and while there be sure to visit the State Roads Museum. Extremely interesting if you like roads/tunnels/transport systems. Also you can't miss out the Priekestollen. Well worth the 3 mile walk in. Click image to enlarge From Flams you can drive a really nice gravel road up below the railway until a stop sign and then walk up the zig-zags to the top station. A really nice walk. Oh, and you used to be able to drive on the beach to the east of Hirsthals, worth doing if you are too early for your ferry. So many places to visit. I could make recommendations all day. Just buys some maps and some guidebooks and go explore |

The larger fuel stations have route books that list all the roads, lay-bys and camping spots in the country (I think the series includes all of scandinavia ) They are a little larger than the michelins guide books, oblong in a plastic sleeve and well worth buying. (Im away from home or would give you the proper name!) We were billed about £90 from Bergen to Mosjeon to Oslo including twice through the longest tunnel at 26km! (Only way to do the mountain pass it cuts through from the best direction).

We spent an enjoyable holiday there this year, 2018, taking in the annual meet of Norway's Land Rover Club ("NLRK Landstreff") in Laerdal.
http://www.nlrk.no/index.php?artID=1022&navB=60 This enabled us to go off-road and make some friends. I agree with wyvern, journey times are longer. You just soak up the scenery. Tolls and pre-registration is a smooth system. Wish they could adopt it elsewhere. Eating out is expensive as is alcohol, although somewhat dangerously you get used to it. We also went in 2016 but our output shaft failed in Southern Norway, forcing us to come back early. Luckily our insurance covered the transport of the broken down vehicle to France. Otherwise the cost of repair in a Norwegian Land Rover garage would have been exorbitant. |

That’s what I was thinking. I’ve got some European breakdown cover, travel insurance, map and a box of fluids and basic tools. It is after all only Norway, not Outer Mongolia.
