Of course a basic puma is too posh, it has a dashboard and centre console instead of a shelf in which you can put a bag of mint imperials, and the engine is controlled by witchcraft electronics Ben

Rolling with laughter Are Td5's too posh as well then Ben? I suppose they are, especially with electric windows etc. Although they still don't have a functioning heater, so that's some conciliation! Very Happy

Way to posh! Whats an electric window? Confused Is it like a light on the end of the handle, so you can see it in the dark?
A Heater? Pah! Just put a hat and gloves on! Ben

They aren't that posh! Leccy windows that you have to hold the button down, windscreen wipers from the stone age, gearboxes that still rattle around...ahhh.... 2011 110 USW

4x4 Magazine brought one of these up to Tong recently and put it to test around the off road site as part of a large test of almost every 4x4 currently available. Whilst I wasn't allowed to drive it I did watch it in action and it went brilliantly off road, largely due to it's light weight and simple mechanicals.

Not pretty but does it what it says on the tin!!

Pic here..... http://www.4x4i.com/features/road-tests/35...-2011.html

Bit of video on the home page too. Andy

Struth that brings back memories. I bought a couple of Niva's back in the early / mid 80's (had Land Rovers at the same time), the first one felt like a bag of nails but the second was relatively smooth - both were pretty capable in standard form. The trim felt like recycled vacuum packaging and split and cracked if you dared so much as look at it. The transfer box mount shimming was critical IIRC. Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

[Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc]
