any genuine accessory fitted from new is automatically covered by the vehicle warranty. Anything fitted later is covered by the 2 year parts warranty.

Ripon LR refused to replace my side-steps, rear step and front bumper at 2 years.
At 3 years, I went to Hull who replaced them all. Just a shame the rest of their service was so awful. |

I thought accessory’s were only covered by the initial 3 year warranty and not the full 6 year corrosion warranty? Ray

Any dealer fitted accessory that's fitted within (I think) the first 2 months is covered by the 3 year warranty.

They refused to do mine on the grounds they were damaged by external factors e.g. stone chips Rob

Just had rear step and both side steps (sliders) replaced under warranty at 3 years. It took seven weeks of "hard discussion" though. I rang them two weeks after I reported the problem for a progress report - they had lost the photos they took. Could I take it back in for some more photos taking? NO I don't have the time or the inclination for a 50 mile round trip. I'll take some and email them to you. I rang them again two weeks later and was told that JLR wanted to inspect the vehicle and take paint thickness measurements. I then spent far too much of my life explaining the difference between corrosion warranty and paintwork warranty to the dealer. After further discussions with JLR the dealer then told me that they had now decided that they did not want paint thickness measurements and would process the claim. After a total of seven weeks the dealer rang me to say the claim had been accepted and the parts ordered.
On handing the vehicle back I noticed that they had replaced the original sliders with Fire & Ice which I much prefer. My only advice is don't take No for an answer and keep pushing. Good luck with your claim. Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

This is true. Tommy didn't specify which warranty and I didn't look at the age of his vehicle. |

Thanyou for replies guys,
So yeah side steps are rusting especially near side. I travelled from bristol to kent for this defender from the maidstone JLR dealership. The 90 is a 2013 with 12.000 miles from new. On the first trip down i said id have it aslong as you tidy up that step and service i said. “Yep no problem mr harris, see you next week for collection” week passed another drive down but for collection so well happy. 2 hours into journey phone rang “hello mr harris sorry can we cancel as vehicle requires mot” well im on way so not really. Long story short they hadnt sorted side step and mot was squeezed in at 4pm! Still took over 25k off me though. I got home at 9pm that night, 11.5 hours after I arrived. After this royal **** up i lost faith, the week after dived underneath after dusted off cobwebs around filter housing, dropped the jet black (not changed oil, just cleared service light) and replaced with fresh. Sooooo if i do try and claim am i stuck with the original dealer or can i use one close to me?? Thankyou chaps for having the time to listen but you know the score with them, I wouldn’t trust any stealer at the mo |

You can use any dealer, but for a 2013 the warranty for the steps will have expired.

I think it's outside warranty unless you get in contact to say they promised to it before collection,
Then you'll be stuck with going back to see them. I bought a 2014 from main dealer and will swap things over myself so proper care is taken, |

Its definitely got a full 2 year warranty starting from the day I purchased it. What and if it’s worth anything we shall see.
In the mean time ive contacted mj fews in Gloucester. They asked for pics so i shall let you know how i get on. If all fails ill bin the warranty and dealers all together and start servicing myself! Regards |

Seeing as they agreed to tidy it up but didn't, then raise that they 'forgot' and you'd like them to arrange for it to be done at a local dealer - Maidstone is a Guy Salmon I think, who are now part of Synter group. It's a big group so it's likely they'll have a branch near you. Even if Maidstone post a new side step to your nearest branch and they fit it for you - it wouldn't even have to be a JLR branch, it could be BMW or any brand, they'll be more than capable of swapping the side step over for you. As it'll be the dealership that's paying not JLR - they can just pay it as an internal job. I would also suggest that if they didn't get it done while you waited, they could get a fresh MOT put on it at a local branch, few franchised dealerships have their own in house MOT centre, they usually farm them out to a local independent garage. Reason being few dealerships would do enough MOT's to warrant the expense of bays and staff, so there will be a local MOT station that'll probably do MOT's most of the dealerships in your area. Again a local branch could arrange this and transfer the cost back to Maidstone. |
