I have CP on the front of Millie and use it a lot and i'm glad of the grip
What about getting it sprayed the same colour as your landy so it would not stick out so much 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

Front end looks a lot better now Do you see a noticeable difference with the truck lite’s?

I’m really pleased with them.
Switched off they look pretty close to OEM (which I wanted) and they are a lot more cost effective than Noldens or JW Speaker. They can be wired as a DRL but I haven’t so the spare wires are just taped behind the fitting. Spread and clarity of light is excellent (so much so passengers who have cars with bi-LED lights have commented that the Truck Lites are better). I haven’t seen the original Truck Lites but the dark spot immediately ahead of the van mentioned certainly isn’t an issue with these. From an appearance point of view the only issue is just half the lens is lit on low beam with the remainder coming on with full beam only. On balance I’m happy with the lights and how they sit with the new front end as a whole. I’ll take some photos when I’m next out at night and post them up. Thanks for the feedback. I always thought I would go for the chrome JW speaker but since losing silver wheels and hopefully a new bumper I feel they will look more out of place. I do like the black JW speaker but can't help feel it is a lot of money for something that most people would assume are ebay copies!
If you do manage to get night pictures at some point it would be appreciated |

Hannibal Roof Rack Install - Part 1 - Rear Ladder
Ultimately fairly straightforward but here goes on today's project; rear ladder for roof rack (no more time today so the rack itself will form part 2): It's the two part ladder which stops short of the rear number plate and has a separate step bolted through the body bracket and bracing against the rear cross member. These two bolts have to come out (they are tough!): Click image to enlarge The rear step comes with four bolts (with nuts and washers) and an aluminium spacer to take up any difference between the body and cross member. The nuts here aren't required (as the bolts go straight into captive nuts behind the body/upper rear cross member and, as there were no alignment issues (and I didn't want to drill the cross member), I've just used two bolts and washers here. This is the unused aluminium spacer: Click image to enlarge And the lower step bolted into place (the other tow holes in the step do no match up with anything pre-drilled in the rear cross member. If the step moves at all, I'll remove it and drill the cross member for the additional bolts but it feels very firm: Click image to enlarge The upper section requires drilling through the body in the centre of the rear capping so interior trim needs to be removed. The window surround pulls forward and off (the clips are cr@p but just about reuseable if reshaped a little with pliers): Click image to enlarge The speaker grille is held in place with 3 screw/rivet type trim clips: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And then slides to the centre of the van and out: Click image to enlarge Two 6mm holes drilled through the body and capping (never something I enjoy.....): Click image to enlarge And I padded the rear of the ladder with neoprene to provide some cushion again the body and prevent water ingress: Click image to enlarge Ian MY1998 300Tdi 90 Hard Top (Now Soft Top) MY2015 110 XS SW - Sold MY2008 110 County USW - Sold MY1962 Series IIa Truck Cab - Sold MY1994 300Tdi 90 Hard Top - Sold MY2001 TD5 90 Truck Cab - Sold |

The ladder is then bolted through the body with stainless bolts, washers and nuts:
Click image to enlarge Neoprene gasket applied to the clamp: Click image to enlarge And copper gear to the grub screw, and the top clamp is closed own onto the gutter: Click image to enlarge I've located the ladder as far to the nearside of the van as I can to prevent the pinch point with the rear door; its still not ideal but there really is no additional room. This also centres up the ladder of the lower step to the extent possible: Click image to enlarge And the finished job; I'll try and get the rack put together and installed over the weekend: Click image to enlarge Ian MY1998 300Tdi 90 Hard Top (Now Soft Top) MY2015 110 XS SW - Sold MY2008 110 County USW - Sold MY1962 Series IIa Truck Cab - Sold MY1994 300Tdi 90 Hard Top - Sold MY2001 TD5 90 Truck Cab - Sold |

Thanks, it’s a slow process......time and ££ permitting.
I bought the rack for my last USW and somehow never got time to fit it so it’s been in our living room for nearly two years while I finished building the house....Mrs H is delighted to see it installed! But tracker going in this week and then off to Zagato for Dinitrol treatment after the bank holiday and before the weather changes. Then saving for Zu alloys and the dual finish wheels and SVX front end go up for sale to recoup some costs! looking worlds better! I don't know why they put that style of front ends on, they look horrid! Having the full lot puffed out, just doesn't make the defender look right at all. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Thanks, both.
In terms of the wheels - something that fill the arches better. I had mud terrains on LR Boosts with 30mm spacers on my old USW and they really suited the van: Click image to enlarge So maybe spacers as a cost effective interim and change out for BFG ATs when the current road bias tyres are worn out? Quiet month....am off to Zagato next week for Dinitrol treatment but tracker (finally) fitted; SmarTrack and subscription means I’m spent out but they recovered my last USW with no damage and no missing parts so went same again.
Plus there’s an app so I can see it’s still outside the house during sleepless nights.....with battery state, movement alarm etc. Click image to enlarge Battery cut off and other security mods next. And fitted Bosch aerotwin wipers.....had to do something within budget. Got the van back from Chris today; an absolutely superb job - without doubt the best I’ve had done.
