Does anyone know if a 7" headlamp is produced with a flat (non handed) dipped beam pattern?
If not would a change over relay controlling a pair of bumper mounted E marked fog lamps, connected through a dash switch, be legal in Europe as dipped beams? i.e. std left hand dipping in the UK, switched over to the fog lamps when driving in Europe, still controlled by the std dip switch. Much as I like applying a strip of gaffer tape across my headlights at the ferry terminal when the other drivers are attaching beam benders, a more accomplished system would be better. Any ideas? |

Get a second set and do a quick swop?
Nice leavers on the back of the sport to switch them without any changes Mike |

Thanks Guys, I have the pair of LHD lights that were in Ickle when I bought it and have swapped them for the crystal rhd versions, we go across to France (South Vendee) 5 or 6 times a year in the school holidays & I was looking for something a bit 'trick', a bit like the ones on our Freelander 2 that we can move with a lever.
I had a buggy years ago (short wheelbase and Porsche 914 motor) and I think I put Cibie Renault 4 headlamps in old chrome stalk type units, these would adjust L - R but output was not good as they were old style pre H4, even with halogen conversion bulbs. Thanks anyway |

The only problem with flat beams are that they only give out about 50% the light of normal ones.... It caught out a whole load of BMW drivers out here when registering them for use in Germany as they thought they could get away with just switching it from UK to flat beam, and then 10mins and a light test later they were off to the dealer to buy a set of £1000 lights.
Just for interest..... Continental lights on a Nissan Pathfinder will set you back £2600!!!!! Lets just say I know a very unhappy Nissan owner, lol. Glyn |

Last summer I rebuilt a crashed Rover 25 for my French builder whilst 'on holiday' in France - I took all the second hand bits across with me but of course the lights were wrong, tried the controll technique with beam benders needless to say it didn't pass as my builders mate was on holiday from the garage so his boss was testing, so I cut the clear glasses off the rhd lights pulled out the lenses, stuck the lhd ones in and sikaflexed them back together - passed and a happy builder, I got the rear of my house roof done for free!

President Sarky's pledge to cut drink driving and speeding means there are plenty of police, gendarmes and douane stopping people everywhere, most weeks I get stopped twice, routine, check docs, walk around truck, check lights comment on une belle voiture, blow up the balloon et au revoir!
By the way, there are masses of radar speed traps up and down the roads now in France - beware! |
