Sankey camping trailer build questions .... | |
Hello All,
I'm in the process of building a camping trailer, based on a MKIII Sankey and a canopy. The trailer will have its own battery (an Optima YTS 5.5) and will have an external motorhome style mains hook-up point (I know, it's not exactly wilderness ). I intend to install a mains battery charger conditioner and at some point in the future a fridge.
The trailer has side lockers in the canopy and an internal divider (3mm aluminium). I intend to use the the trailer off road, so want the build to be appropriate for an overland vehicle.
Questions:
1. When running power cables through bulkheads is a grommet sufficient protection or do I need to use sleeving as well? (there will be an external 175 Amp anderson connector)
2. Are there likely to be any issues with the tow vehicle battery powering the trailer lights and the onboard battery ? Except for a common earth, the circuits will be separate.
3. The mains supply will have a circuit breaker and earth leakage breaker installed. Do I need to earth the vehicle to the mains (I think all the mains kit is double insulated)? Do I need to use an earth spike ?
4. I want to install a bed-slide; anyone know where I can purchase one in kit form (all the websites I have seen have been for completed drawers etc, or American)
5. I would like to install a side hatch in the steel tub - like the ones on a military 110. Any ideas as to where I might purchase one - I just need the door and seal, not the inside box.
6. Any other recommendations?
Many, many thanks,
