As above, try running some Millers diesel additive though as well.
You may find it will work perfectly but quieten somewhat. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Happened to me after having run my new to me 2.4 for roughly 6 months with silence on ignition off.
Very alarming - but a search on here revealed that the EGR goes into self cleaning mode (chugga chugga chugga). A few months later EGR problems led to a BAS remap with EGR delete and a much more driveable Land Rover |

^^^probably the best all round solution is to have it switched off with a remap at the same time

Alive on mine and yes, that's the best solution but at £400 or what ever it is now the OP might not want to do that.
Just yet... Mind you, with the EGR's I was sick and tired of replacing them and they aren't cheap! Around £162 Genuine now I believe. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 Last edited by custom90 on 7th Aug 2018 3:41pm. Edited 1 time in total |

So I've been wondering this for a while, but it's difficult to search for in the sea of other EGR issues.
My 2.4 Puma has never done the chugga chugga since I bought it 2 or 3 years ago. I've checked with Pete at BAS who confirmed that I have a standard map with no EGR disablement. I've also put a full blanking plate in (with no little hole) and did not get a EML. This obviously seems ideal, although rids me of the excuse for getting a map, but is there anything I should be worrying about? |

yes. wasn't aware of you being able to blank a standard 2.4 and not get a MIL ?
can you be sure that it's a standard map? |

I've got the BAS RRC which is basically a modified IID tool. I sent an upload to Pete who told me it was bog standard.
Not sure if there is any other way to tell, but yes, I've not heard of it being done on a standard vehicle which is why I'm not sur if I should be concerned. |

I wouldn't be concerned, but it is a mystery.
On a standard 2.4 you shouldn't be able to blank the EGR completely without the MIL lighting, so something unexplained is happening. The absence of of the infamous "chugga chugga" sound is not in itself a problem, EGR valves are supposed to be almost silent in operation and a some indeed are, most however quiet rapidly cease to be silent and make the noise. It is when your valve stops making the noise that you should be concerned. The EGR on the 2.4 is not one of the vehicle's finest features and a remap to disable it is undoubtedly a very attractive option. |

My EGR changed it's habits significantly after a normal full service!!! Still good now even tho it's been a bit "odd" for 18 months... Long may it continue as I'm not looking forwards to replacing it! Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
