If (like Stefan above) you already have the grey wire in place in the loom, then how do you connect to it (seeing as it's wired into a plug)
There must be a jumper lead out of the warning light cluster somewhere to link to the rev counter? |

Get a terminal for the matching grey connector which is on the instruments loom (PaulMc does the terminals).
Or cut the white/slate and extend to the rev counter directly or add your own connector. The warning lights are connected separately through two smaller black connectors - these don't have any signals on them to do with the instruments.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

OK cheers. I just wondered how it was done from the factory. if they had a jumper loom available or the Td5 dash had a separate rev counter sub-loom hanging off the main one

Just waiting for my connector from Paul mc now... got the rev counter in and it powers up just haven't got the signal connected yet. Does anyone know what voltage to expect from the signal output? I checked with a meter and I was only getting 0.19v when I revved it a little bit it would roseto around 0.3 but I didn't give it a bootfull. Seems a bit low to me....

You won't get a measurable reading with a meter like that due to the way the ECU generates the signal.
It's not a varying voltage signal, it is varying frequency, and requires a "pull up" which is done in the rev counter. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Ah right I'll have to wait until I get my connector then, although it didn't come today so I won't be able to do it until next weekend

Sorry to hear that your crimped terminal and cable wasn't delivered today 
I did post it yesterday, by 1st class post. Anyway, when it does arrive, you'll need to unlock the connector housing before you can insert the new terminal. Hi,
Try to connect the tachometer. In this case it is a 90 Td5, my 2001, with abs and tc. If I have understood correctly, the white / black wire must be connected with yellow / pink wire that runs from pin 19 to the abs module. My question is whether it is the yellow / pink wire as marked on the photo with the blue circle. Click image to enlarge Thanks GerardTD5 |

The yellow/pink wire referred to goes from C0658-13 on the ECU to the speedo, it appears to carry the road speed pulse signal, not the engine speed from C0658-19 to ABS.
Confusing to have more than one of the same colour wires with different functions 
Looks like you're stuck with running the complete new wire from ECU to Tacho |

Clive, that's what it looks like. I had hoped it was easier; I misinterpreted the pictures of Paul MC and LandymanStefan.
What I can still do is see which color wire pin 19 is and try to find behind the dashboard and then connect it to the white / black. Thanks anyway. GerardTd5 |

Unfortunately, the wire from pin 19 to the ABS module is also yellow/pink, however, with the ABS controller being under the seatbox along with the engine ECU, that connection doesn't go outside of the seatbox.
That's what I meant about confusion over the same colour wires with different functions. |
