Arm rest/Seat hybrid???
I’ve taken the centre seat out of my 90 and was going to drop in a cubby with a thicker padded top to get a nice armrest and some more storage.
That was until my good lady informed me that we need the middle seat for the dog (the dog sits in the front with a harness on)
So.....
Has anybody come up with a solution that gives a platform level with the two front seats but allows a padded top to drop down onto it providing an arm rest?
Or a seat where the back hinges down with padding on the rear of it that becomes the armrest?

I was going to have a go at making something but if it has been done already it may save me some head scratching!!

Thanks in anticipation of any ideas!!

Jez

What if you put one of those under-cub by safes beneath the seat? Would raise the seat base to make a better arm-rest and give the dog a better view.

Do the under cubby safes bolt to the centre seat box cover or to the middle seat mounting holes in the seat box frame?

I think I’m going to have to bespoke something. If it works I’ll post pictures if it doesn’t I shall pretend that this post never existed! Embarassed

Thank you for that.
If I had a platform that sat on top of that configuration that would work!
Looks expensive though, who sells it?

My cubby safe bolts to the same holes that the cubby uses. Must admit, I though they would be the same as those of the middle seat, but no idea if that is the case.

Hi Jez676

The lid for the cubby box was a bought item and the armrests are from an old Discovery 2 fitted to the Defender seats and recovered to match.

Hello Def90

That sir looks great...well done Thumbs Up

Yours...

Mine...

I'm going to see how best to replicate the idea.

Are the arms static? or do they lift with the lid?
and it looks as though if the arms do raise they
'nest' nicely within the width of the two seats?

anyway really nice solution...good to see another example in Defender land
of an ingenious way to improve things... Mr. Green SKIP

Hi X4SKP

The armrests are fully adjustable and fold upright just like the Discover 2.

They are a close fit with just about 5mm clearance to the cubby box lid but it opens and closes just fine.

I was very pleased with the end result as they fit perfectly but you do need to care welding the armrest brackets onto the seat frames to get them perfectly aligned.

It was a bit of tack welding fit and check a few times, I should have some photos of the seat frames and the brackets.

Hello Def90

Thanks and understood.

By chance I managed to source a pair of arm rests from a 2014 Disco' 3
that has be scrapped, now being stripped post accident damage.
(£20 if I remove... Shocked )

So will be looking to get them recovered as they are currently...

I'm also thinking about reversing the Lt/Rt Fit and making a bracket that extends
from the Centre Cubby Box to mount these, and in doing so leave the seats as standard
also allowing the tip forward (which I occasionally use to retrieve from directly behind the seats)
without any potential issue.

If this is a no go, when I've had a good look at this, I always have your route... Thumbs Up

'Fat lid' also sourced matching my interior.

Anyway a job for the Autum...'thanks... Exclamation ' SKIP

Bring this post back to life?
Did OP ever get anywhere with this? I'm considering doing something similar in terms of a quick release seat base mounted Cubby box. I've been researching a lot to find a pre existing template for some inspiration!

Why would your dog want your knobs in his face?

Raise the cubby box with a sub enclosure beneath. Cubby now at correct height, and much better sounds. Dog on passenger heated seat. Dogs comfy, warm, you can dry seat, and dog gets his own window. Woman in the back, also you now can’t hear her due to improved sound system.

Simples.
