I had mine replaced by Foleys a few years ago, along with a substantial ammount of other work. Now have to replace it again as the Foleys 'Forever chassis' has rotted away to the extent I dare not drive it. So a brand new Marsland Galvanised chassis is sitting in the yard waiting for me to find the time to fit.
Not impressed at all!

Chassis was on for 13 years. Galvanised and sold as a ‘Forever’ chassis. Has rusted from the inside out. Foleys seemed surprised that I was disappointed with it!
After a lot of complaints I managed to get a replacement chassis, but had to pay for delivery myself.
I now need to strip the old chassis, dismantle the car and transfer everything to the new chassis.
Something they could have done in a couple of days will take me months. I do not have ramps, or even an engine hoist.
To say I feel let down is an understatement.
I have older Land Rovers with painted chassis that have lasted better. Nissan are buying back Nivaras that are the same age as the forever chassis.
Now my main vehicle is off the road for months. 80" 1948

Shocked that is bad, I assume you haven’t left it parked in the sea Whistle chassis shouldn’t rot that quickly if galvanised, I’m just starting the building up of my galv chassis, looks like applying dinitrol internally and externally was a good idea. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

My guess would be Foley's chassis was a "newly galvanized" chassis. They take a good clean used chassis, then galvanize it.

The issue being it wasn't as clean internally to start with as thought, and that can lead to this sort of issue. Like so may processes, prep work is the key to success. If there is any rust, dirt or contamination, it can compromise the galvanizing process. That would be my guess by the looks of the photos.

There is no way a properly galv. chassis should look like that in 13 years. it's a Landrover thing...

The car has never been in the sea, or salty water. I live 15 miles inland, so not even salt spray!

I agree that the chassis was not galvanised properly initially, that is why I am so upset at the attitude taken by Foleys.

The new chassis will be dinitroled inside before fitting. Externally will be painted with special paint suitable for galv. 80" 1948

Do you know what make the chassis they fitted was! - Richards, Marsland, etc.? was it actually hot dip galvanised or was it zinc sprayed? Was it even a newly manufactured chassis or as CDN has said was it a refurbished old chassis that was then galvanised?? My 90 was 22 years old when I sold it last year & although the rear cross member had been replaced the rest of the chassis was sound & certainly no signs of it rusting through from the inside so would expect a properly galvanised one to last at least that long...

I was told it was a new hot dipped chassis. I now doubt this was the case. It was not Marsland. They now use Marsland but said they have changed supplier.

I still own all the vehicles listed below, none of them has anywhere as much rust/corrosion as this new galvanised chassis! All would pass a MOT.

It is not just the fact that it has corroded, it is the total lack of any support in refitting the vehicle with a new chassis. I will never use or recommend Foleys again. 80" 1948

That is appalling customer service, they should replace and fit fit for free, especially if it is sold as chassis for life......maybe they deserve some bad Twitter comments or similar, when something like this happens, they need to pro active keeping you happy, not fudging a half solution leaving you displaced......... 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW
