I write this post in response to the thread.”
I am a Director of Foley Specialist Vehicles. This customer contacted me in March. We had not heard from him since we supplied him with a galvanised chassis in 2004, some 14 years ago. The chassis was not advertised as a “forever chassis” ,it was not sold to the customer on that basis back in 2004. I have the paperwork still, there is no mention of any such warranty. The work which was done to his vehicle which was ( at the time) being used as his “ off-roader” and in the 14 years has never contacted me in anyway saying that the chassis had any issues !! When he wrote to us in March advising that the chassis was suffering from rust, he himself made it very clear that he did not consider that the chassis was under any form of warranty. After some to-ing and fro-ing in correspondence, we agreed with this customer that we would supply him with the replacement chassis free of charge and he would fit it himself. This was a gesture of goodwill on our part, even though 14 years had passed since the original chassis was fitted. At the time that is what he agreed. We did suggest that we could fit the chassis at a cost, but he wanted us to fit the chassis Free of charge. I explained that we could not do this and felt that a New Marslands chassis @ £2000 + vat was more than acceptable. He was disappointed, but agreed to this and had the chassis collected from Marsland to fit the chassis himself. I was aware throughout our correspondence, that he was threatening to post this on forums and, in so doing, he agreed to put on a balanced point of view. I am afraid that I don’t think that the point of view that he is now presenting is balanced, or indeed accurate. We have fitted hundreds of chassis’ over the years and never had an issue. I would hope that anyone who knows us would know that we pride ourselves on our customer care. We were under absolutely no obligation to replace the chassis, and yet did so. [/i][/i] |

In response to the post from Foleys. You said that you had had issues with chassis’ and that is why you changed supplier. What has changed since you fitted mine, that you now feel able to supply chassis as a forever chassis, but mine was only good for 13 years? Or are the forever chassis just being miss-sold? Since I complained, you have pointed out that galvanising is not a guaranteed coating, implied that living 15 miles from the sea is enough to have it rot away, you have not done anything to inspire confidence in your product or after sales service.
I agree there was no warranty after the time period, but as you can see from the posts, no one, thinks that a galvanised chassis should rot from the inside out so quickly. No do I as I said on numerous occasions. I also feel that as I paid to have the car overhauled and not just paid for a new chassis, that fitting of a new chassis would have been the default standard of customer care. I agreed to fit the chassis myself, as I could not afford to pay to have it fitted by you. Let’s be perfectly honest here, you do not have a great track record in that department based on my experience. As I have stated on many occasions and others here have to, you carrying out the work would have been the ‘right’ thing to do. The car was not, ‘my off roader’ it was my main car that had been used off road. There is a difference that is significant in terms of expected maintenance. I contacted you as soon as I discovered the corrosion, believe me, I would have contacted you earlier if I had found it. I am not sure what your point is there, the chassis has clearly failed in an unacceptable time period. This thread is about the cost of fitting a galvanised chassis, do you wish to submit a quote, if so does it come with a 13 year life expectancy? I am sorry it has come to this on an open forum, but I felt and still do, that your after sales back up falls way short of what is acceptable. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

This forum isn't the correct place for this discussion between yourself and Foley - you should be taking this "offline" and not doing it in public.
Neither myself nor the members here know any of the history, agreements, etc so we cannot reasonably be asked to make a decision to back up either side of the dispute. It's unfair to expect otherwise. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Well, if Foley offered me a free galvanized chassis free of charge + 2.000 pounds fitting costs after 13 years of use, I’d be a satisfied customer! 👍🏻

following on from what martin said and i think its only fair to comment that i don't know of anything automotive based that has a 14yr warranty on it, heck sure as hell nothing in the Lr stable gets good warranty and quick results.
Our local BMW dealer n the other hand have been excellent over the years, e.g. a turbo blew at 130k on a 520 Bmw, did major damage to engine inside the 3 yr warranty period. BMW stood on and rebuilt it.outside warranty period they have offered discount on parts or labour subject to the car being serviced by them as per manufacturers schedule on anything else that failed, which o have to say wasn't much the 90 we had that was near new we had to fight for months to get side steps replace and rear cross member painted.chassis rust lr refused to do anything about it.ditto the gearbox issues. if they haven't seen your vehicle or its not been serviced as above then No warranty. if you wish to discuss this then feel free to pm or open a new thread rather than spoiling this one please |

No fitting costs offered. I would have been happy with that too. As Martin has said, this is not the right place to get into a discussion about individual cases. 80" 1948 Lightweight V8 Bowler Tomcat 130 Station wagon 90 300tdi (Santana PS10 pick up) Range Rover L322 (Ful fat) |

I’m sorry for my English. Could have said better in Dutch. 😂
I mean I’d be happy if I only needed to pay for fitting costs after 13 years. |

If anyone's interested I know a chap who does chassis swaps on a very quick turnaround, which in turn brings the cost right down. If anyone's interested PM me. He's local to north Surrey. You source the parts and he fits. I saw a late 300 he did and it was excellent, vehicle drove in Tuesday night and went Friday morning.
