Fluids for 1986 defender with 300 Tdi conversion
Hi guys new to the forum and land rovers, just bought a 1986 defender with a 300 Tdi conversion and disco rear axle and wanted to know what grade fluids are used in Engine, gearbox, Transfer box and axles and I plan on giving it a freshen up before I use it

Cheers Very Happy

Engine 15w 40
Axles ep90
front axle swivels ep90 or the LR Swivel grease which is better if they are weeping oil
Transfer box ep90
Gearbox if it’s an LT77 I am sure that’s ATF fluid
Grease nipples I use GP Agricultural Grease - Morris or similar (if it’s good enough for a high output 250hp tractor with a 1000 rpm PTO shaft on the back it will be fine for a tiny LR drive shaft

A good tip is that most farm supplies usually sell all the above and are far far cheaper than Halfrauds

LT77 reverse is up by 1st, it’s extremely likely it’s an LT77 as they were original spec for a 4cyl of your age - unless it’s been changed with the transplant
