Part manufacturers - again- is there a difference?
I've been through this before with filters but now I've hit the same question as I need a new started motor and a tensioner for the drive belt.

For the starter (NAD101240) there seems to be a number of manufacturers including Britpart, denso, bearmach, quinton Hazelm original equipment, allmakes, and of course Land Rover.

The prices vary by almost 10 fold! Is there a difference is the reliability/longevity of these different makes? I don't really feel like getting stuck out in the bush if there is a difference but I also don't need to pay a ridiculous amount for the Land Rover part if there isn't much of a difference.

Thanks!

Some times there is yes.

The very cheap ones often use cheaper bearings and brushes, they do the job but sometimes they don't kick over as well as the more expensive ones and sometimes they don't last as long.

On the other hand there's probably not a lot of difference between reputable brands like Bosch, Denso, Valeo and Land Rover ones.

Personally I'll look up the part number online and see if the price is reasonable for a genuine one, then drop my local dealer an email to see what they can do it for. Most of time I get parts from my local dealer, unless the retail price is crazy money. Like radiators are something silly like £600 from Land Rover, or £130 as an aftermarket one! If the price is that crazy I don't even bother wasting my dealer's time, because even selling at cost they're not going to get anywhere near the after market one!

buy cheap buy twice. we use a lot of bearmach gear as it has a 3yr warranty and is priced fairly.

nothing with a blue bag....

or a recognised brand like mahle. some of the cheap ebay starters are very noisy in use and take much more current than a better brand.

What i normally do is to check which brand is the part and then buy it. Saves at least 50%. Or if it’s an engine part i check the ford prices.

I buy only LR parts if there is a compelling reason. a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover
