"most of the garages around here.........." Garages not Main Dealers. As said only just been introduced to the guys Rolling Eyes As you say only had it a couple of weeks!!

But to answer your question relating to garages - Ten years of taking my cars into local garages Shocked

One example was when I took my Jag replica in two years ago and they managed to break the centre console bit, yanked out my immobiliser switch and the guy was resting his knee on my number plate holder and scratched the hell out of it luckily he didn't break it as it was made of fibre glass and the damage was hidden under the plate when it was put back on. I have read loads of examples on this forum also about damage done at main dealers so yeah worth having one eye on whats going on Thumbs Up As said theyre probably OK havn't heard any bad news about the particular branch - very pleased with the branch service so far.

Well my 59 110 has been in for the recall last week. It returns this week for another diff oil seal, replacement of rusting wing mirrors, rusting rear sliding window catches. It then goes to another garage for attention to rusting bulkhead below front window rubber seal.
At least I had the chassis waxoyled.

Where exactly is the rusting "Peanutbob" is it from under the lower window rubber, from under the window frame that has the foam sealant strip where it rests on the bulkhead or the bonnet hinge on the bulkhead?

Cheers Chris

It's under the lower window rubber where the rubber joins the metal window frame, about 3 cms long.

Big Cry Sounds like my old TD5, it had very bad rust all the way around the frame hidden by the window rubber. I only discovered it when I had the perished rubber replaced when it was 5 years old. The guy that did the work said it wasn't uncommon on Defenders as they don't put sealant in so water just sits behind the rubber most of the time Rolling Eyes

It was also the reason water made my roof lining drop as it filled up with water leaking from the sunroof rubber seal. He suggested I seal all my windows which i did and have done on the new one! Some say it's anal but of course it's common sense to look after something which costs so much when you are going to keep it a long time!

I hope they get it sorted for you properly Thumbs Up e.g. glass out, treat properly and inspect the rest of frame. It would be ideal if they could swing a new frame for you Whistle

I had an 03 90 also with rusting wing mirrors (on the arms). One might have thought that L/R would have requested their wing mirror supplier to improve the quality of their product by now/or change supplier. I don't quite understand when you are paying 25/30 thousand pounds uk sterling L/R feel putting ancient mirrors with 1970s Leyland quality is acceptable!

And why are the rubber seals around all the doors not glued in?? I have had the rear door seals replaced twice after they came away and the door catch mashed the strip. Both L/R and the dealer could not utilise glue, so I have now done so. All the other door strips come away with ease..
I've never come across such a wonderful and dreadful vehicle..I'll either sell it soon or keep it forever... Shocked

The satin black paintwork is thinner than a fag paper and it is still an issue.. i got my headlight rings replaced in Dec/10 and all the paint has fell off, side steps, chassis and mirror arms.. £32K Defender gets not 1p more rust protection than a Base model. We put up with it and to be honest the finish pre India was mince. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

Shouldn't think you'd get mince post India. They're a bit touchy about the sacred cow and that sort of gough.
