Ghost in the Machine......well, the radio/CD player
I hope someone can help me. Currently on holiday and found that my radio keeps switching itself on?! I have 2009 Defender 110 with a basic LR radio/CD player. I realise there is this ‘one hour on’ feature which means it switches itself off after an hour to avoid the battery being drained. However, I imagine that is if you accidentally left it on. Mine keeps switching itself on! I can’t tell how regularly it is doing it but I am worried I will have a flat battery by the end of the holiday. I keep having to go back to the car to check if it is on and regularly it is. I have tried switching it off in various ways - without touching the ignition and trying by turning the ignition on and then switching it off. Neither seems to stop the Ghost in the Machine! Can anyone help? To be honest the CD player doesn’t work properly either as it only occasionally lets you put a CD in (most of the time it doesn’t accept them in) so maybe the solution is a new unit all together as I get the feeling the LR ones aren’t great?

Many thanks in advance,

Stephen

Can't really help with the problem but for the short term maybe pull the fuse for the radio? At least you won't have to worry about a flat battery then.

Hi
I picked up a 110 usw last September and thought I was going mad. Radio on during the night, or when we came back to it after parking up. The dealer changed the unit and showed me a stack of radios with the same fault - all out of Defenders! 2010 XS USW

Thanks everyone. At least it isn’t just me!

Greyman, can you tell me where to find the radio fuse? Sounds like a sensible solution for the time being.

Seriesonenut, when you say you took it to the dealer and they changed it - was that the dealer you bought it from or did you take it to a Land Rover dealer? I bought mine privately but if I could take it to a Land Rover dealer to get it swapped out because it is faulty then I will do that. That might be too much to hope for!

Cheers.

Hi
Independent dealer I am afraid. The cost of anew head is not too steep, however I went back within the 3 months I had an opportunity to and to be fair no question, just done. 2010 XS USW
