Optimill QR boss on 2015MY - any problems?
Apologies if this is answered elsewhere but I've searched and cannot find an answer.

I'm thinking of going for the optimill quick release steering boss mainly for security. However I've read that the steering wheel was changed for 2015 to support dynamic stability control and the indicator cancelling mechanism was changed in the process, see http://www.web-rover.co.uk/articles-steeringwheels.html

So has anyone fitted the Optimill boss to a 2015 model and, if so, do the indicators cancel OK? Is the DSC OK? any unforeseen side effects?

If necessary, does anyone know of an alternative that has resolved the DSC issue?

Hi welcome to the forum. I have the Optimill quick release on my 2015 xs hardtop and no problems whatsoever with the DSC or indicators cancelling. It’s a very nicely engineered piece of kit and works really well. 2015 HT XS 90

Thanks Suli, that's reassuring! I didn't fancy forking out £500 and regretting it.

How do you get on with the smaller steering wheel? That's assuming you went with a 35cm Momo or similar

Small steering wheels are a joy, IMO. Fit one and it soon becomes 'normal'. Then use or borrow a Def with a standard wheel and wonder how on earth you got on without it. Quick, easy and relatively cheap upgrade that does make a difference. One tip, if you go Momo, do not buy their 'deep-dish' versions has they pull your hands too far away from the indicator stalks but even more annoying is the cramped reach. Gets very close to your body, possibly more so with the QR boss. Stay with the flat versions and you'll be fine. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

£500 what are you planning to buy!! I had a momo Nero which was nice but swapped it for a Startech which is very very nice. What steering wheel are you thinking of getting? 2015 HT XS 90

Ah yes, maybe I was a little ambiguous Very Happy , the aforementioned £500 included the QR boss, wheel and swivel lock and I rounded up a bit for good measure. Mind you, from what I can see you get pretty close with just the wheel if you go for startech! At that price people may break in to steal the wheel and leave the landy alone...

Very true but the Startech is stunning. The swivel lock is a great piece of kit, the docking station is very useful too, do a search on the forum for ideas where to mount it. I have sent you a pm. 2015 HT XS 90

Thanks too Grenadier, 35cm seems awfully small...it's only a bit bigger than the wheel on my Lotus! So it's good to get feedback from people who have tried it.

I too have been searching, so thought I'd resurrect this. I have a post 2015 (with DSC) and have fitted a an Optimal QR boss. I will of the moment assume you and probably others now have done this. Question for all; did you need to use the small pins for self cancelling on the 'DSC model'? My indicators won't self cancel, but very occasionally they do. TIA

PS, I would check the OEM steering wheel but not with it - in storage.

maybe slightly different as mine is a Nov 2014.

but that said, the boss ( as long as you get the right spline count) is very easy to install and I didnt bother with the pins. seems to work fine without them.

the swivel lock is brilliant.

and I second the Startech, make such a different and looks the part with the Land Rover name on it. Defender D250 HSE

I have a MY2015 XS Station Wagon (left the factory April 2015). Optimil QR boss and swivel lock was a straight swap for standard factory fit wheel. No problems with indicators not self cancelling. Defender 90XS SW
