Thanks again ZSD-Puma for your information.
I tried the faster gear change 1st to second when cold and I had perfect gear changes so that problem is solved and I will stick with the MTF gear box oil. 2016 Defender Landmark 90 2005 Defender CSW TD5 90XS |

I use redline for the R380 copes much better with the heat when towing

I will be towing on a regular basis fairly soon in what respect does the R380 cope better with redline? 2016 Defender Landmark 90

It’s much smoother when cold I was quite surprised really I was looking for a better quality oil copes with heat well try it :

Do you mind telling me which Redline product you are using there seems to be 2 gearbox oils? 2016 Defender Landmark 90

Glad that trick works for you too! I still don't understand why it works, but it does. As stated above I really don't rate the R380 at all highly, Landrover was never very good at gearboxes but the R380 was surely one of the worst. Ford on the other hand was always very good at gearboxes (especially in the '60s and '70s). |

I went for genuine LR, not cheap but thought it may be worth going for. Have not used it yet so unable to comment on the performance.
