Long overdue update, Ashcroft output shaft kit and clutchfix HD clutch kit with uprated slave cylinder was fitted last September. There is noticeably less backlash/slop in the drivetrain now so my OE output shaft must have been worn. No noticeable difference with clutch pedal operation but clutch has performed well and it’s reassuring to know quality parts are inside. Since then some more bodywork has been done removing chequer from wingtops. Just the two small bits on the tub bottom to remove now… I will be selling the full 110 chequer kit (wingtops, sills and tub panels) complete with black stainless bolts should anybody be interested… Immaculate as recently been powdercoated black. In the last few weekends I have: - Fitted a new steering box as mine was notchy. - Fully stripped and rebuilt front axle, swivels, kingpins, stub axles, shafts/CV's, steering arms with genuine new LR bearings, seals and ball joints - Fitted Fox front dampers with Gwyn Lewis turrets for added poseur points to match the rear Fox dampers - Fitted adjustable Terrafirma steering damper. Unnecessary probably but an ebay bargain at £20. - Fitted an official (mantec?) raised air intake - thanks Rob (Trebro) - Replaced heater valve in engine bay with genuine LR unit which has solved my permanently hot blowers! - Fitted terrafirma snow cowl as cheap ebay one had split/cracked - Checked/topped up all fluids - Defender2 approved mod – red and yellow gearknob collars!! Booked in to (hopefully) have air con regassed tomorrow, or if not at least I should get an idea of what needs repairing I have sourced a pair of one-piece rear shafts to fit which should reduce backlash that little bit more and also remove a point of failure, the drive flange splines. So while I'm at it I will freshen up complete axle with seals etc. I also intend to jet wash out the chassis rails using my karcher drain pipe jetter attachment. Will need treating for longevity. Need to research the best products to use! Also need some slightly higher front springs or slightly lower rears to level it out a bit. I quite like a slight rake angle but currently it's too much. I am tending towards lower rears as the heavy duty springs are really harsh without a load. I had a log splitter in the back recently and the ride was transformed but as I am generally unladen then some softer rear springs wouldn’t go a miss. Maybe 1" to keep a slight rake which will also be good to account for future loads/towing. Other work on the 'to do' list is: - Injector seals as I have some diesel pooling around the injectors. I have got new seals/copper washers, just need to fit them. - Glow plugs. Bosch replacements sourced, just need fitting. Did a few hundred miles over the bank holiday weekend, pleased with how the truck is running at the moment! Dropping the axle is simple. I hadn't done it before and had the axle off within two hours. Rather than disconnect the brake lines and having to bleed the calipers on refitting I leave the caliper connected and unbolt/tie up in the wheel arch, Then it's just a case of going round disconnecting things... - Radius arms - Panhard rod - Shock absorbers - Propshaft - Steering box drop link I disconnect the radius arms at the chassis end so that I can lower the axle down on a jack pivoting about their radius which seems more controlled to me

Sorry, completely missed your question on the Fox dampers! I can't comment on longevity yet but the build quality is second to none. They seem good, ride quality is greatly improved but that's more than likely due to original's being shot. Expecting the ride to improve again when I swap rear springs for a lower spring rate than the HD ones currently fitted. Fitted a new steering drop arm ball joint today. Frustratingly it’s a job I had previously done but when I replaced the steering box recently the nice new ball joint was lost. So new genuine JLR ball joint kit fitted plus a slight tweak of steering box play adjuster and the steering is now absolutely bang on. No play whatsoever - it has really tansformed the drive! No more constant steering input along straight roads!
