Americans want the alpha version, the original utilitarian bad ass defender. Not the kinder gentler beta version with defender name tag that starts at 60k.

This is sad news.

I read more than a few times that they are going to make it in various trims..from spartan utilitarian to very posh. So we’ll see. I’ll likely want something in the middle.
They are going to offer it in a 90, 110 and a truck. That’s the extent of the “family”

We got a mailer today with a brochure entitled “Icon” .. “the lost pages” A little tribute to the Defender. Marketing is ramping up to target current owners. I’m getting excited.

I hope you Americans wrote in large numbers to Gerry McGovern.

Otherwise we we are going to get an expensive blancmange that is very capable off-road.

However, I still remain foolishly optimistic.

I thought part of the rationale for previous investment in large presses, etc & the shared D7u platform underpinnings across several different models were that the Defender could share a production line anywhere the D7u was being produced...

That only works if there's spare capacity to do so, which there apparently isn't. The design work (including the production design) obviously isn't wasted though. Darren

"With a capacity of 168,000 units in the new Solihull plant for the XE and related models, Jaguar must be hoping to more than double sales from last year’s figure of just under 77,0000."

Not sure where they are on these numbers today, but given the 25% downturn in last months sales, the laying off of 1,000 contract workers, and the fact that this plant was future proofed as part of the global 1m sales per annum, then has it really got no spare capacity today?

Is that a rhetorical question? I don't think any of us have enough information to adequately second guess their production strategy. Darren
