2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey

Blank air intake

I replaced the original air intakes by the KBX ones. One of them is a blank but the KBX both have an open structure. I wonder if rain could give me problems when the inlet in open. Any experiences?

That's the main reason I haven't upgraded to KBX, can't see the point of forcing more water in as you drive along in the rain.

it's crazy they don't supply a flat piece of plastic to sandwich behind the disused one. You could always cut one to shape from a piece of ice cream tub or similar.

That being said it won't do any harm having it open. If you look at the edge of the bonnet right next to it, there's nothing there to keep the water out.

Will water come in or would warm air get out? Roel

Thanks! I am only worried about the "spongy thing" which es probably a piece of insulator but I have to find out. But I probably would use put a piece of plastic to close the inlet

I think that the "sponge thingy" is the rather pathetic acoustic binbag that certain models had fixed to the plastic inner wings, in which case it is already disintegrating.

It should be thin foam encased in a plastic thing rather like a black bin liner. I don't think it actually does anything useful except retain water and dirt, and eventually disintegrate and fall off in little pieces!
