Has anybody fitted the fuse box to battery live cable relocation loom that's offered by LRD Security and can offer some insight to what's involved? I understand the principal but at first glance £60 seems like a lot of money for what appears to be a single cable in some conduit, so wonder if I'm missing some important detail that's only apparent from the instructions?
Here's the link to the kit: https://www.landroverdefendersecurity.com/...ation-loom Thanks for looking. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |

Yes of course is it a lot of money.
But if you haven’t got the right tools, a spool of battery cable and all the other Nick nacks it becomes a pretty good price. Just my 2 cents a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

Hello LandRoverAnorak Darren
I looked at this too and would say No you are not missing anything. Adding this work around (or something similar ) for this piece of highly questionable Land Rover design decision making, was one of the first jobs I did after being advised of the set up LR went for, when having my current Defender inspected, before purchasing... You could run a suitable piece of cable, via your own route, to replicate the existing, but leave (if you choose to) the existing in place, then if cut, the thieves would believe that they have disabled the alarm (if they have found and disabled your BBUS first), then if you have maintained power and (for example) installed additional BBUS on opening the vehicle it 'sounds off', as intended, or maybe even louder... This bit of kit looks OK, and even at £60 is probably worth doing, but is really simple to replicate at a fraction for the cost and whilst it may be really well thought through...the add hasn't been subject to proof reading... "This kit has been really well through" Good Luck SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Thanks Skip, for confirming my suspicions. Some of their other kit does look pretty good but this one seemed rather pricey. Darren

My guess is it either comes through the top of the battery box across the top of the centre section then back down into the drivers side box.
Or there is a void on (110SW's at least) between the back of the battery box and the toe board for the 2nd row foot well. It could be run through here. It looks a well made kit. You could source the parts and make one yourself for about half the price I reckon. Battery cable, ends, conduit and clips are available from autosparks, but once you put a price on your time you're probably only saving a tenner. |
