Broken turbo studs .. how can I get this stud out? :(
I've noticed that my turbo gasket was blowing (again) and found that 2 of the 3 studs had snapped off leaving the turbo connected to the manifold by just one stud.

Question is, how can I get this stud out of the manifold without the hassle of taking it off?

That top one with the clearance hole, you should be able to drill out and re-tap the manifold. The one with the blind hole is going to be pretty tricky. Good luck! 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

I would remove it and do it on the bench. I tried the same on my TD5 and went through 3 drill bits even using cutting fluid before I got through it.

As bankz says, after much experience of Series exhaust manifold studs (where there is much more clearance) the only way to get a good result is on the bench.
Thumbs Up

As others have said it's going to need the manifold taking off to get good results. If the top one has a hole right the way through then I expect when you start drilling it it'll screw it's self right through and out the other side.

You might be able to find a second hand manifold from a Transit and just swap them over, would save a load of time.

Looking at the angle ,you will never get a drill parallel. Remove the manifold as other have said get a set of "easy out "stud extractors and drill a smaller dia hole than the stud, make sure you drill the full depth of the stud and screw in the easy out which have a left hand thread so as it tightens up it unscrews the stud . Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

You might get a compact right-angle drill in there, but it will be extremely difficult to drill the stud co-axially along its length.
