Nakatanenga RAI, photo of your underhood hose..
Obviously intended for those of you with this unit installed Wink

I'm installing my Nakatanenga RAI, the kind that drops directly to the filter box via the blank for left hand drives:

Top side is obviously easy (assuming I was meant to use the short section of hose between the cyclonic hoohah and the top pipe that is ...). But underneath I'm interested to see your hose routing, it's quite tight in there, did you remove any of the foam padding on the wheel arch? (*)

At the moment I have the long section of hose, 3 larger hose clamps, sealing mastic, some longer screws with washers and a small alloy section of welded pipe that I think is intended to attach to the filter housing to the remaining hose. The hose fits around the outside dimension of the smaller end of this section so I assume the larger end will fit to the filter housing, and that's what the mastic is for and it's just a push fit??

*what is that padding even for? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

I'll try to get a pic later today for you.

Only the XS model has the rather pointless padded soundproofing so my vehicle didn't. The routing is self-explanatory really, there's only one way it will fit but on some vehicles (like mine) is really tight past the alternator. At some point when I have time I intend to relocate the air filter box mounting plate slightly to create more space. There seems to be a massive "build tolerance" on this!

Got some time this AM to install it properly.

So much easier once that sound proofing was removed Thumbs Up .

It's close to the alternator (touching the bolt), but in my case moving the box further outboard would make getting the top back on after a filter change even more of a chore so I left it as is...

Makes quite a racket over about 2.5krpm Cool Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

Just out of interest what made you choose a snorkel that goes through the blank on top of the wing rather than the side?

Sorry, I just remembered I never posted the photo I promised, there's probably no point now!

I love the sound mine makes, a sort-of big diesel "whup-whup-whup" on tickover and a throaty roar at speed. It is also quite surprising how much crap gets collected by the centrifugal pre-cleaner, all of which would have ended up in the air filter in a normal setup.

2) It allows a much bigger internal duct from the intake to the filter

7) It works with or without a roll-cage

(Point 8 intentionally blank to avoid the number 8 followed by a bracket being replaced by an idiot face with sunglasses!)

9) The top of the wing is a much more logical place to take the pipework into the engine bay allowing larger pipes and a more direct route, and freeing up a useful space for other stuff behind the original intake hole.

Plus probably more reasons I used to justify the purchase to myself at the time but cant remember!

Whilst the original intake location makes a certain amount of sense for a direct intake (side facing, cool air, reasonably clean) it has absolutely no merit the moment you fit an RAI, when the ridiculously convoluted internal duct becomes a major weakness. The Nak RAI takes the most direct and shortest route from precleaner to air filter, and allows the largest diameter pipe run. Nothing else makes sense really.

Agree on most points above.

Although it's still a convoluted path (under the hood it does an abrupt turnaround and a half) it still manages to keep its (larger) internal diameter intact Thumbs Up

The 'fishtank' on top even after one day is showing a lot of insect material inside.

It's not quite my cup of tea aesthetics wise, but of all options it makes the most practical sense.

I'm going to adorn it with SpongeBob stickers, maybe a little pineapple inside... Laughing Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

All good points. I just ordered a genuine LR one (so same as Mantec) today, now questioning that decision Embarassed

Did you use the full length of the hose in the kit or shorten it to fit?
