Well its still early days but I'm pleased to say, for me anyway, I have fixed the fuel leak deal. I have driven for an hour on a hot day with a 1/4 tank, filled up, driven for another hour and no leaking. Now I'm down to 1/2 tank again all on hot days, parked in the sun and all is normal. Before swapping the valve around I would have seen new wet diesel stain all over the fill pipe, breather, chassis, tank neck and and body going down under to the bash plate; instead I have none or it. When I release the fill cap immediately after driving I get a very small breath in. Way less than the old whoosh out. If I let it sit for some time after stopping I get nothing. Car runs fine. Cars is running so well I have started wondering if the 20lt of light grey smoke I have been getting on start up after sitting overnight, could possibly be related to an over pressurised fuel tank. Because I'm not getting it anymore. But then I guess it could also be just a Land Rover thing.
LR have the big end facing the breather pipe. I reckon it should look like this. My Defender and travels |

Mine Is in the dealers today having this looked at. I got a call this afternoon saying it had all been approved under warranty and it was leaking because the valve was on the wrong way round from new!!
I wasn’t surprised!! They recon ill have it back tomorrow but I won’t hold my breath as they had the truck for three months last time it went in. |

Mine is starting to perish so this thread has been very interesting.
Glad to see for once it's not something really expensive to repair. No Guts, No Glory. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 Last edited by custom90 on 7th Oct 2018 5:48pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Remove rear wheel.
The hardest part of this job is getting the original crimped ring off but with the right technique it is a 5 minute job. get one of those hacksaw blade handles so you can hold it at the end. Go in via the hole that the big fuel pipe passes through and you can get the other end of the blade onto the clip but wont be able to get any pressure on it to be effective. So, get a length of mild steel flat bar, mine is about 10mm wide, and hacksaw a small cut into the end around 7mm deep. You can poke that in from a point a bit further towards the front of the car and get it onto the end of the blade. It will hold the blade at 90° to the clip and allow you to apply pressure. Move both hands back and forth at same time and voila! a few minutes later a nice ping as the clip comes off. Lube tube and pull it off and through chassis. Get a new bit of 20mm ID fuel pipe, lube that and push through chassis, slip a Jubilee over, push and twist until you get the pipe on the tank connector. I manages to tighten the Jubilee using a long extension with a universal joint on the end. Although it took me half a day (including driving to town to get some pipe) if i had to do another, I reckon 30 minutes if I had all the tools and pipe lined up ready to go. |

Did mine as well. My $AU 0.02 worth of hints:
- Pretty sure it was the original one in the car, so it had 9 years of life - I didn't remove the tank (MY10 110) - Removing the mud flap and its bracket is easy and gives much-needed working room. - I was able to unclip the hose clip on the tank end (i.e. not hacksaw it) - I used a heavy awl-type sewing needle (one of those odd things you keep in your toolbox...), and was able to lever the end of the clip up, so it just sprung off. If you have bought the "factory" replacement pipe, have a practice on the clips on that before you do it for real - you have to do it by feel pretty much. - I extended the pipe for the one-way valve so it is all the way up behind the plastic plate over the tail lights - way out of the way of water etc. - I ran the "large" breather through the same gap as the main filler hose (i.e. not the factory "squish" above the chassis rail) based on the success reported by others. |

Thanks for all the advice. I have a puma 90 that needs a breather pipe replacement.
Any advice on how to drop or move the fuel tank. I've undone all the bolts but it doesn't budge. |

The breather pipe on my 2010 2.4 110 is leaking. I've looked through this thread which really helpful but mine seems to have a straight pipe from the tank to filler, no T piece as in some of the photos on here. Was the T piece a 2.2 evolution.
Was this T piece added later on? Am I ok with just a straight replacement pipe? |

Yes, the breather and filler vent pipes evolved over time (and got worse). Replace like with like.
You might want to read my posts on page 2 of this thread, made a long, long time ago. |

Thanks Black Wolfe. A simple job to do in the end by dropping the tank. Used high grade marine pipe which should outlast me! Can’t understand why they crush the pipe and not route next to filler pipe! |

My 2015 110 had an issue - fuel leaking if you filled the tank right up. Happily my independent sorted it without dropping the tank. Phew.
