Front recovery points
Hi,
I have read a lot of posts on here regarding what can be used as a recovery point. My vehicle, a 2010 110XS SW has these rings fitted, they are bolted through the chassis on the bolt which attaches the steering guard.

Are these recovery points? I cannot see any welded on tie down rings other posts have referred to.

they are tie down points intended for tranportation not for recovery. They will be fine for towing on road, but are not strong enough for off road recovery, especially if its very stuck in heavy mud etc.

That being the case, what do you (or anyone else) think of these, seem very easy to fit and look quite smart (and expensive Confused ) ?

Jate rings seem out of the question as the steering guard/tie downs have the holes, also it means scrabbling about underneath in the mud!

it really all comes down to what you intend recovering Mr. Green

Those mudstuff ones will be fine with a bit of light recovery id guess, but the more load you intend putting on them, the more substantial you will want the recovery points to be. There is a thread in the general area on the same subject going on 3 pages. its all horses for courses tbh.

Generally the best recovery points are those which are made of substantial thickness of steel, and which have fixings onto multiple points on the chassis rails. So for the front you'd want something which is a good few mm thick steel, and which attaches to both chassis rails. i.e. a proper winch bumper. Now obviously that could be complete overkill for what your doing, hence my initial question Very Happy

Hi Mike,

I don't expect to be doing too much heavy recovery stuff but I have 10 acre smallholding so there is the usual mud and hauling stuff around. I would like to have a winch & bumper but can't really justify the cost! and I don't really envisage being up to the axles in mud.

The MUD ones attach using the 2 bumper bolts through the chassis (which is in good condition) so hopefully they would be strong enough? especially if I rig a bridle to both? 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black.

An alternative to the GMB ones are the Nakatanenga ones here

They are predominantly towing eyes for on-road recovery but they are ALSO to be used for lashing/tie downs points.
As stated in the user manual. 04' 90 Td5 CSW..

I'm looking to find an option for putting a front recovery point onto my 110, The eye's here look ideal (given that the other option I'm considering is mounted on a steering guard).

My issue is that I have, and quite like, the soft A Bar on the front so cant mount these eyes.

Are there any other suggestions for front recovery points that people can suggest. While I'm thinking of fitting a steering guard I don't really want to be trying to hook onto anchor points on it when its in the mud.

If you have a standard bumper fitted at the moment, you could swap that for the military type bumper with the towing pin in the middle. It's quite a neat solution and readily accessible.

Either will need a pin purchased separately.

First Four also do a heavy duty front bumper with a 2" receiver socket on it but it is quite expensive just to get a front towing point! ---
