Hopefully just spares left over during manufacture. Still have one in the chubby box which I found inside mine. Just check the obvious places for a missing nut.

It may be worth taking off the interior trim and looking to make sure all the bolts/nuts are there securing the side body panels to the tub.

I had the same and thought nothing of it until I decided to dynomat the inside where on removing the interior trim I found the body only had one bolt/nut intact. It appeared the only thing keeping the body/roof & roof rack on the vehicle was one bolt/nut and its' self weight. Quite scary when you think about it! It worth checking if anything to make sure they are all tightened up.

THIS.^^^

When I first took the carpet out of my mini it was like a Longbridge rubbish bin, washers, chopped off bits of cable ties all sorts under there. So it's possible they're nuts that have been dropped during manufacture, but I think the above is more likely.

I definitely agree with SMB, Flanged Nuts from the body holding down bolts more than lightly, seen this on several of my Defenders. NormanD WE191
