Ok, so I've had another look and rummage around the engine bay, and I just can't find any evidence of the clutch switch wiring....
The only loose plug is a 4 way, and doesn't have any black or black/white wires. I can't find any 'new' tape or anywhere that looks freshly disturbed and might be where Ashcroft hid the wires. So 3 options; 1 - If Dave can tell me what exactly his guys did with the wires, I can find them and join them. 2 - Can anyone tell me where their clutch switch wires come from, so I can have another go at finding mine and join them. 3 - Make the circuit at pin 35. When I had a go at this the other day it brough the engine light on, but I'm happy to have another go. It is ground at pin 35 I'm after, isn't it? Thanks Mike |

Hurrah! Some success
With Dave's photo as a starting point (yep I did get it, thanks Dave) And a bit of contortionism I eventually managed to feel a couple of inches of hearshrunk cable tucked in the back of the loom just after it comes through the bulkhead. Ashcroft had done a fantastic job of tidying up the wires! Why is it there are so many jobs that you need fingers that are twice as long, and half as fat as mine, and that bend backwards??? Anyway, eventually I managed to join the black and black/white wires and lo and behold my nanocom readings now match miker's! Clutch switch OFF. Going for a spin we now see the differences in gearing between the ZF autobox and the R380... In 3rd at over 2,000 rpm the cruise control wiill activate and hold a steady 42mph. So far so good. I've not been out to the motorway yet, but couldn't find a speed/gear/rpm combination at 60 or less where the cruise control would activate in 4th.... With all your help my cruise control is now working again, so thank you very much for that, but I wonder if I could ask for a bit more help with getting it activate in 4th. Does anyone know what combination of speed/rpm I need to be aiming for? I'm running 235/85s. Thanks Mike |

Well better late than never, albeit a tab useless now... Cable goes in to the main loom and through the bulkhead grommet behind the header tank. Click image to enlarge |

That's a good photo geobloke, thank you.
Ok, Dave beat you to it, but it's really helpful reminding me what was there before. If only I'd taken my own photos (or had a better memory) I wouldn't have had half of these problems Just need to understand the speed/rpm thing now and see if I get the cruise control to be any use to me on the motorway.... |

What a Gent...
I have so many photos of various vehicles in different states of dismantling or rebuilding, better than my memory after a month or so. Can't remember if you have answered this already but which cruise system do you have? I take it the LR onboard one. Any tips for installation? A mod I have been dying to do... |

As the gearing has changed you may now need a speedohealer between the Speedo and ECU so it thinks you're travelling slower than you actually are to bring it back into parameters that allow it to set 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Just checked the ratio calculator and it's only ~100rpm resuction, could be enough for the ECU to not allow cruise.

Geobloke - basically i got a discovery switch off ebay, a couple of ecu pins and a bit of wire and followed this picture
Click image to enlarge There was a little more to it, but really not much. For the £20 and the hour so it cost me, it was great mod. As long as you have the standard transfer box (and gearbox) i would recommend it. Let me know if you need any more info or photos Grafty - 235/85s so nothing too big. I was wondering about a speedo healer, but wanted to try and understand it all first. I think i need to play around with the Ashcroft ratio tool http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/calc/ratio_calc.html to see what's changed, but does anyone know what exactly in aiming for? What parameters/ range is the ecu looking for? Thanks Mike |

Ahhhh so you did use the ECUs onboard cruise control. Excellent. Is on my list that is for sure.
Have found a kit by Landzeiger that is basically the same as what Terrafirma used to do before forcing folks to spend £400... £20 for the Disco switch is great, can't seem to find it below £60 at the moment. I will need a Speedo Healer as I have a Disco transfer box and 285/75/16 tyres. Speedo actually reads bob-on accurate to GPS now as it happens, but not according to the ECU |

I finally found some time to sort this out.... and now have a fully functioning cruise control again
After sorting the clutch switch etc, cruise control would work in 3rd only. Finally getting round to fitting a speedo healer to pin B13 at the ECU and setting to -10% correction at the end of last week gave enough of a reduction to get the ECU to think I am travelling slower than I am and put the speed/revs back into the acceptable cruise control window, and voila! cruise control in 3rd, 4th, and most importantly 4th with Torque convertor engaged. For completeness, the speedo healer is a healtech one from Craddocks. It has to go to the ECU only, as fitting at the transfer box also makes the speedo read low . The speed signal goes from the transfer box through the speedo before getting to the ECU.... white wire to speedo signal (speedo healer input) green wire (speedo healer output) to pin 13 on the black ECU plug, red to live, black to ground. Thanks everyone for all your help with this. Cheers Mike |
