Yes, generally TD5s have the correct wing harness already, and just need the BBUS plugged in, but the TDCi needs the "value engineered" standard wing harness replaced with the TD5 version (TDCi doesn't have the BBUS connector as standard).
No other changes are required, no reprogramming or anything like that. |

hi blackwolf i got a rply from stacie but i am not sure i follow her reply .... Hi Stacie yes I was disappointed with the response!l purchased my defender with the belief that it had a decent alarm and immobilizer.......only to find out that it is not really fit for .I now find out that (a couple of months after its warranty is finished)that the indicators share the same fuse as the alarm and the alarm fuse can be blown by shorting the wing indicators. To top it all LR knew about the problem with the alarm and even developed a fix for it as early as 2011 but tellingly failed to incorporate it into the manufacturing process. My biggest gripe is that LR are asking the customer to pay to install a fix to a substandard alarm system which in my case should have been fixed at manufacture once the problem was identified in2011. Can you please answer the following questions... 1...Has the bulletin alarm fix been introduced to the manufacturing process ..if so what date and vin number 2....If the answer to above is no..why not? Basically are any defender owners covered post 2011 when LR identified the problem with the alarm. 3...Why do owners have to pay for a fix to a substandard product,a product without the fix that is not fit for purpose. Please note ..this message will be posted on the open forum as a few owners are interested in the subject. very prompt response! reply from stacie 21/02/18 Hi Martin, Thank you for your reply. I have taken the opportunity to liaise with the Land Rover technical team who have advised the below. There were 2 technical bulletins released for the alarm system in the Defenders. LTB00893 is for vehicles from 2007-2013 VIN 732615-446832 – This bulletin is available as we no longer supply the old type alarm system (10as) due to the supplier no longer producing this product. There is not a known concern with the unit however if a fault occurred with the original unit the later system can be fitted to a vehicle. LTB00877v2 is for vehicles from 2014-2016 VIN 446832-490328 – This bulletin is available for concerns when the alarm system does not work but if the battery is disconnected and then re connected it works correctly again. If a module was due to fail in this way we would expect to see this early on after the vehicle has been manufactured. In answer to your questions I have listed the response from the technical team below. 1. The LTB is due to parts availability only and vehicles 2014 onward VIN 446832 have the later type module fitted. 2. Vehicles 2014 onwards were fitted with the later module as we could not get the earlier module. 3. There is no issue with the old type 10AS module. Thanks, Stacie im a little confused with the reply ![]() |

Banging on about faulty modules and not the key issue of shorting the system and deployment of overlay kit!

Nitram, I saw that in the other thread and regrettably the only conclusion I can come to is that she has absolutely no idea what she's talking about!
On tbe 19th Feb she told you that LTB00386 had not been applied to your vehicle. Two days later she tells you that there have only been two TSBs relating to the alarm system, neither of which is LTB00386. This is not even vaguely encouraging! |

Totally agree Blackwolf I am sad to say that i think it may be a reflection of the training that stacie has recieved from LR......... Yes she is providing an answer but its not to the question you have asked..its a well tried technique im mddying the waters .........politicians do it all the time .
I have informed Her that i will be posting the communications on th forum and i guess she will have looked at the posts and will have seen that there is only a handfull of customers posting on the subject and may dismiss it as insignificant......... ......I am also a little surprised that more members are not infuriated by vboth very poor LR customer service and a totallt sub standard product that is the Defender alarm system... ......We need more folk to pm stacie on the subject and i hope they will. |

Maybe the overlay kit hasn't been applied to your vehicle because it has the later alarm module so doesn't need it. Ray

I guess its basically the same module ie interchangeable mk1 .but its the way its fused ie the indicator line fused with alarm thats the problem and stacie needs to answer the question posed to her by myself and supercat.

The overlay kit has nothing to do with type of alarm module, and I doubt that the change from one module to the later (and by all accounts significantly inferior non-Lucas version) coincided with the change to the vehicle harness that negated the need for the overlay modification.

Well for me - things have moved on a little, in that not getting a firm date or VIN number for an alarm harness change leans me to thinking that the overlay kit was never incorporated for later MY vehicles. Indeed, is there was such a change, wouldn't there have been a further TSB as per the 1st one referenced by Stacie?
In any event, my vehicle is firmly captured in the 1st VIN range, and having looked up the price of the overlay kit, I'm more than pleasantly surprised to see it coming in at (inc VAT): https://www.lrdirect.com/LR031883-Kit-Alarm-Wiring/ - £4.70 and even slightly cheaper elsewhere, so P&P is probably going to have more of an impact on final cost. |

Its looks like a simple fiix....is it difficult to access the ecu under the dash....and for those with trucks under warranty who may or may not need it I would not want to interfere with the wiring in case for whatever reason the ecu goes faulty they may blame th bodges wiring. If your going the diy route some pics would help others less brave!

The AS10 is not particularly hard to access, at least not on a TDCi (
![]() You will probably find that the hardest part of installation is extracting the terminal from its receptacle on Connector 57 without causing any damage and without the proper extraction tool. |
