Some people wire ignition feeds from the radio so it's likely that it could be a relay that another owner added that is being powered from the radio. Possible Sub that has been removed?

Had that same head unit in my old D2 & it used to 'chatter' when it was cold & I tried to play a CD. Radio worked fine & once things had warmed up inside the CD player would work fine too. Would imagine that in a Defender the symptoms would be more frequent!

No Electric Ariel Grafty.
It happens when I switch it on without a CD in it. I'll maybe get a chance to make some radio removal pins tomorrow and have a look. Time is short!! |

No you are not alone! Going to try and sort that at the same time just for the moment but may get one of the MUD fascia plates soon. |

If it doesn't make the noise with a CD in, but it does make a noise without a CD, then surely it must be the internals of the CD player that are at fault...?
...and a couple of thin screw drivers in the holes will probably get the radio out of the facia without to much trouble. |
