Nearside' and 'Offside are archaic terms first used for mounting a horse have no idea why they are still in use for twenty-first-century vehicles, especially as they only refer to UK kerbed roads driving on the left totally makes a mockery of the terms. Left and Right are far more understandable and are used throughout the world to order car parts so why not just say left hand or right-hand side of the car when facing forward
And if you think the above is confusing I have tried for forty years to explain to the wife the offside rule in football all to no avail. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Historically and perhaps surprisingly the terms "nearside" and "offside" have exactly the same meaning regardless of which side of the vehicle the driver's seat is located (or indeed if it is in the middle) and regardless of which side of the road you drive on.
In France, for example, historically the "nearside" is still the left in the direction of travel. I believe that it was a British term which we spread with the Empire around the world. I accept that in the modern, politically-correct, metro-sexual, group-huggy world of today the term could be misinterpreted and unambiguous (and idiot-proof - well, fairly idiot-proof) terms like "left" and "right" is probably more appropriate. If people can't be relied upon to work out when to turn the headlights on manually any more, then expecting them to understand this is probably not reasonable either. Actually "left" and "right" might be too difficult too. ("Alexa, which side is my left?") |

Typical millenial thinking. So tolerant that they want to suppress the rights of others. So inclusive, unless you disagree with them of course. Liberal thought is creating intellectial cripples in our Universities. Last edited by CordellSen on 5th Nov 2021 3:35pm. Edited 3 times in total |

No, they are not and if you think so then you are under a misconception. While I have to agree there are some misguided individuals who wish to dumb down are cerebral thought processes it soon becomes apparent they are talking nonsense, on the whole, those who attended our tertiary education system do so because they are the exact opposite of being intellectual cripples, I know this because I lecture at a university. millenial =millennial intellectial = interllectual For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

People who constantly moan about president Trump.... does it matter (to non American members here) if he's the president or not?
No. the populations of the US voted, regardless of the whys and whereabouts of their voting system (a bit like ours really), he came out on top, job done. get over it, carry on.... Just because he says it "like it is" and doesn't water down anything suddenly people are offended and think he's nuts.... I'd rather him than some spinless minister in a suit who changes his tune at the drop of a hat (or the drop of a law suite, or drop of a scandal etc etc) He's already rich, thus can't be bought... so leave him to do his job. |
