There were a few villages like that on my way home yesterday, not knowing quite what is what in a strange land I was cursing a few parked cars that were too self absorbed to park courteously, what with the wipers on full go and a trailer on the back I wasn't in the mood for slaloming past cars. It's been a while since I was so glad to be back in Yorkshire, a much better class of ignorant tosser over here! Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

When I asked this question (of a particularly clueless school-run-mum) I was told that the reason the pupils couldn't walk to school, even short distances, was because of the awful standard of driving of driving exhibited by people doing the school run!

An interesting circular argument - "I have to drive my kids to school because my driving is so bad it would be dangerous for them to walk!".

I really think that the human race is very severely doomed.

Flippin' ridiculous, Christmas and New Year celebrations are still fresh in everyones minds, some of us still have chocolate gifts left over, being the 4th of January.

this is what I mean about trading laws been too slack, on supermarkets etc. There was a article two years ago about tescos having them for sale just before the new year! Shocked a vicar put a right old complaint in to the tescos and to the papers about it. Tescos said our customers wants them, Who the Censored is going to start buying easter eggs now?? you lads tell me, As someone mentioned, we haven't even had valentines day yet! that's normally the favourite to be on sale, straight after jan saver Censored , Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I don’t usually buy Easter Eggs, and definitely not in Januaty, but there are obviously people who do. Retailers don’t waste floor space on products which don’t sell.

There are people I know who would consider a Cadbury’s Cream Egg as one of their five a day Whistle

I dropped into our local co-op on the 27th December (2 days after Christmas....) to find Hot Crossbuns for sale. Nothing surprises anymore Rolling Eyes

A dairy farmer near us got into bed with one of the supermarket chains and in the first instance it was really good, decent prices paid on time for as much as they could produce. Then the novelty wore off and now the supermarket dictates the price and the quantity and the problem is that they are not quite covering the cost of production. Means that diversified farming is the only way to get close to making money. Not for me, sheeping may be difficult but at least I am not beholden to a single buyer who won't play fair. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

^^^ Whilst comercially the French are not always the sharpest nation, there are some aspects that are worth admiring and one is the respect they have (forced by French buyers' wishes/demand) for fresh produce from local farmers. You will no doubt pay more for a given item, but you will know that (generally speaking) the farmer is paid properly for his/her produce. But their general understanding of food sourcing, and desire for fresh, local, provenance, is far better than ours across most incomes. Yes the very poorest have started on the frozen stuff, but most still pay for what they get and are happy to do so. Our biggest rise in monthly expenditure when we arrived ten years ago, was food costs. But it does mean variety is basically limited to local food types and seasons, with the odd supermarket adding a North African section and of course some pasta and rice. Not like the UK where you could pop in and buy all the ingredients for a nice curry... Big Cry Monsieur Le Grenadier
