Strange cruise control behaviour
I fitted-cruise control to my 2005 110 earlier this year and it has been a god send on our long annual trek to eastern Europe. This week however I was using it and operated the electric window switch as the window was slightly open and it disengaged the cruise control. It latches back on using the resume switch. Using either window switch either up or down disengaged the cruise control. No other switches affect it. I took all power feeds from behind the dash so didn't go anywhere near the window switches. The car also has a Speedo healer due to the Ashcroft ratio change mod in case that makes any difference. Any ideas where to start looking please?

Is the speedo healer behind the dash or next to the ecu?

I'm suspecting you have a ground issue and when you press the windows they induce a ground loop and that send down to your switches as a disengage trigger or to your brake or clutch switch.

Do you have a nanocom? Try reading the switch status of the brake and clutch when pressing the window buttons.

I'm not sure of your setup, but I took the power from the same line going to the ecu and the same ground post on th ecu to minimise these issues. From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. Hi Jonny. Off topic-is. Do you have a kit installed or are utilising the TD5s onboard cruise capability?

Discovery TD5 have the "onboard " bits already,,, Not Defender, hence if you look at prices, the Defender kit is near three times the price

Slightly off topic, I have a Roverdrive fitted so my cruise control will not work when it is engaged, how do you wire in the speedo healer to work?

Cheers

The Defender should also have the cruise control software built in as it’s effectively the same engine/ECU.
There has been much discussion about this. Some say you can add cruise control to a Defender TD5 with two push buttons and some wire.
Others that you need a module costing £400.

Any NNN ECU (post 2002) equipped defender can have 2 button and some wire cruise control if It has standard gearing (1.4 transfer ratio).

The Speedo healer needs to be fitted between the speedometer output and ECU if the gearing has been changed. This is because the ECU is out of parameters for cruise control to activate (revs too low for given speed) Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, particularly about checking the brake and clutch switch with the Nanocom. I'll try that at the weekend. If I remember rightly I earthed the install behind the instruments using the big mounting bolt there so I will take a look there too.

I'm using the cruise facility of the ECU using instructions from this and other forums. I have a couple of switches under the instrument binnacle - one to switch on/off and the other a momentary on/off/momentary on switch for set and resume. Power is taken from behind the dash, the temp gauge I think. I have the Speedo healer installed near the ECU.

I'll update when I've had a look and (hopefully) found the issue. Thumbs Up

The big bolt that supports the steering column isn't a very good earth point, I would be looking for a better one Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Thanks for the advice Grafty. . I shall try an earth cable direct to the auxiliary fuse box I fitted and see if that solves the problem.

Mine did similar after fitting a recon gearbox with a v8 5th gear ratio. Reading around on the net, the advice was to fit it near the transfer box however I didn't want the Speedohealer to affect the reading of the speedo so I installed the unit between the instrument cluster and the ECU under the seat as Grafty mentioned above. The red cable on the Speedohealer needs an ignition live, the black cable needs an earth point, both of which you should find under the seat. Cut the yellow/white ECU wire coming from terminal B13 on the black ECU plug, connect the white wire on the healer to the speedo gauge end and the green wire to the ECU end.

Programme it as per the instructions on their website and all is good, my cruise control works once again Very Happy 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop

I've fitted the 'two buttons and some wire' version with a disco transfer box and a speedo healer. interestingly mine does exactly the same thing. If the window is down and you put it up, its fine but if you press the window button again and the window is already fully closed, it cancels the cruise control! It's never really bothered me but I'd be interested to know if you solve it. This is my switch taken from a disco:

Is it possible to buy the “two buttons and wiring harness” cruise control kit? It used to be available but now l can only find the £400 one that l don’t need.
