Hi,
When fitting a replacement steering damper I noticed it's not a snug fit in the bracket at the drag link end. i.e. either side of the bush there's a few mm gap to the drag link bracket. Does it just sit in the middle of the gap and rely on the damper tension and tightness round the bolt to hold it central and prevent it moving along the bolt? Or maybe the gap's intentional and it's supposed to move? Or am I missing a washer or 2? I didn't notice how the old one sat before removing it. Any info appreciated. Cheers, Andy... Thanks Grafty99,
I also found this diagram on the web. I highlighted the bits i'm on about. So, I don't have any extra washers and the only one that came off i put on the outside of the bracket between the bracket and the nut. Should I just get 2 more and sit them either side of the bolt inside the bracket? Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

Ah sorry I was at the wrong end of the damper, there might be a bit of a gap in there. Doesn't need packing out. I'd have thought with a bit of torque on the bolt it should pinch it in a little 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I do not have a manual with me, but I think that bolt is meant to be torqued up quite tight and should (as crafty has said) pinch the bush and damper.

thanks both,
i've tightened it as much as i dare and the bracket sides ain't moving. there is still this couple of mm either side of the bush. i'm guessing that it just isn't supposed to sit tight against the inner bracket faces. Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

errrr, no....
it's a Terrafirma RTC. I had one on my old defender that was pinched and it was great which is why i went for the same again with this one. I never noticed any gap last time though - that's not to say there wasn't one. Maybe that's the issue. Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |

I would suspect that the bush supplied with the damper is the wrong size.

Ha! I fear the same...old one went in the bin so i can't compare.
Never mind - I'll try another one and return this one if there's a difference. Cheers, Andy... Edinburgh, Scotland http://24heuer.com |
