Drove past an Audi A4 this evening trundling alone the Autoroute at 40kmh. Snow all over the place so thought he was the usual tourist. Turns out he was driving with his space saver mounted. I then passed a second A4 packed to the brim with a family heading to Cham for the weekend and had a thought. Where do you put your full fat wheel once you’ve mounted your space saver, if you have a full car and boot? I assume (not owning said technology) there is no where to put it and therefore unless you break down with an empty boot or empty rear seats, you will in effect be stranded? What a bonkers idea.

My mates Lambo has a teeny space saver and the handbook says the full size should be hidden for collection at a later time.

I am not a fan of space savers, I think you only get a certain length of mileage out of the tyre too if I am right?
id rather buy a proper spare wheel and replace the space saver. What used to make me laugh was car manufactures put a steel wheel as a spare when they could just give the owner a fifth alloy. What I did with the 306, was wait till a scrap 306 come in with the same alloys as mine, and buy a spare alloy with a tyre. I carry an emergency puncture repair kit on my motorbike (as it quite difficult to carry a spare
![]() 1) offset wheels (different width front and back) 2) wide wheels 3) magnesium Alloy wheels then were also far more expensive to produce than they are now but space savers actually served a purpose. Now they are put in for 1) cost 2)emissions 3)packaging And also I would say the average car owner is far less hands on in more recent times and would rather just have a garage deal with it. I would say thay most people now more likely to call for help and wait than change a wheel over themselves (but that could be a huge sweeping and inaccurate statement?) 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I think its more down to the modern car, been a ![]() My 306 HDI is just say on the boarder line of been easy to work on. You cannot not get your hands around the back of the engine at all. I had to replace the clutch cable on it a few years ago, and it wasn't fun at all. No access to anything sadly, unless the engine was out of the way. It's all in the aim of making things disposable. If cars start to fail and become too expensive to work on then people will buy another one. It's unfortunately not in manufacturers interest to make things easy to work on.
They should last the 3 years warranty without major work. After that the manufacturers really don't care ![]() 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I think your right there grafty with your three year warranty warning.
For the first time I am thinking of leasing my next car for exactly that reason. Btw. grafty I was going to send you a text re another matter (security). If you don't wish to respond, I understand.
