Engine coolant life
I notice there is a label under the bonnet of the 2.4 saying do not drain the coolant.

Mine however has changed from a nice orange colour to a brown rust colour, so thinking of changing it.

The car is a 2011, so I guess the coolant must be near the end of its life from a anti corrosives additive point of view.

I think the OAT coolant change is every 10 years but for £30 i would do it now.

I will, it's seen better days. Quite a sudden change from clear orange to murky rust....

For the cost of it and as it needs doing so infrequently I'd use pre mixed coolant. (I use Inugel Optimal.)

I found when I done mine, it was running generally around a degree cooler afterwards.
Maybe combined with new Waterpump though also.

But personally, concentrate is not something I'd choose. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

As above it's 10 years, but does no harm to do it sooner.

I'd definitely use ready mixed, if you're in a hard water area then pre-mixed should already be mixed with distilled water. The left over bit makes topping up much easier, the price is more or less the same from Euro car parts whether you get concentrate or ready to use.

Don't like the "sudden change" bit of your phrase. Suggest you change the coolant but monitor if and how the colour will eventually change again. It should not really change at all.

As to the general question about changing the coolant fluid mix, my 9 year young truck has about 88.000 KM now. The coolant has already been replaced twice in that period, each time on occasion of a waterpump replacement. Last time for the PEL500110.

I don't like the idea of JLR maintenance recommendations to replace the coolant only every 10 years or 200.000 KM. Sounds awfully long to me for the anticorrosion and other additives to still properly do their job. Even without waterpump replacement, I will have it drained and changed every 3/4 years or 25.000 KM.

Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.
